tcstrick Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I have never once fished SML in my life and i have a tournament there at the end of this month. Go figure haha. I plan on pre-fishing the two days before the tournament, but was hoping that I might be able to get a few tips on a general area or type of cover that would be productive. I've heard SML can be tough and this time of year its all about the jig. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance guys! Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 SML is a beautiful place, im hoping to go back atleast one more time this year. i caught my PB largemouth there back in the middle of September. have no idea what the lake is doing now, probably in or close to the turning over stage so it could be tough, as its usually tough to begin with. back in september bass were busting baitfish on the surface all day. i caught my PB just off a point near a tree stump using a dropshot in shallow water. right now though id probably focus on creek channels with cranks and jig n craws, deep water points and humps with a carolina rig or t-rig or a jig, and id also attack rocky areas with a jig or crank, also try wacky rigs and shakey heads around docks, and try flukes around ledges that are holding fish. you may also want to try lipless cranks and chatterbaits. nubasser Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 This is my home lake and lately the fishing has been tough.I have not fished the lower end where your tourney most likely is out of, but you may still find some bass in the backs of creeks feeding,if they're not there, the creek channel edges will hold fish.Cranks and flukes are taking some fish now and You can manage a few on jigs right now,but the jig bite will get better.I've had several follow a fluke to the boat lately that would not take it.You should be getting there after the "turnover" should the temps stay cool and the longer nights. Not sure what your home lake is like but start with things your familiar with and try to locate the fish.Note I'm by no means an expert on this but even my friends who do quite well here are fishing similar to what I have said here.If you can find some vegetation that's still alive ,which there is not much of ,we have found them holding onto that. Also there are tons of docks there as well.I'm sure others more knowledgeable than I can give you more detailed advice. Good luck in your tourney. Quote
tcstrick Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Thanks guys! I look forward to using these techniques in my tourney. I had a feeling that creek channels and secondary inlets would be my best options this time of year with anything that i could creep along the bottom like a jig or drop shot. I really appreciate the info guys! Thank you! Quote
fishing=life Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 SML is my home lake and this time of the year ive always had the best luck fishin deep for them..we had a tournament last weekend out there and it actually seemed that the chatterbait was the only thing producing.thats what the winner of the tournament threw the whole day and weighed in with over twenty pounds....
