Super User clayton86 Posted November 7, 2011 Super User Posted November 7, 2011 Ok I got a question bout trajectory of a slug but it can ne related to most anything with a bullet. I'm shooting hornady sst sabots for deer now the box says 50yds +2.5 100yds +3.3 150yds 0.0 200yds -8.8 Now I'm zeroed at 50yds because most of my spots that I hunt the most are 50 or less but I can in right conditions shoot 200+ Now what's my new table for how this round will shoot normally I would go to the field I use and just shoot at each distance but it's bow season and all I have is to shoot behind my Inlaws only 70yds max Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted November 7, 2011 Super User Posted November 7, 2011 IMHO I am not really familiar with the sabot slugs but I'd think around 75 yards would be a max range I'd want to shoot a slug at a deer. I assume you have a slug barrel & a scope? Sighted @ 50 yds= 0'' Shot @ 200 yds= -14'' If you can only sight it in at 70 I wouldn't try to shoot anything much past that. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Its a play with the numbers to make their ammo look better. They all do it. Its a Zero at 150 yds. If your sighted in at that the rest is close to being true. Its a calculated bullet trajectory. Actual will vary. Sometimes a lot! Only real way to know is to shoot it. So looking at the specs from 150-200 your slug is going to drop 8.8" So in other words, in that 50 yds you are dropping 8.8". This is pushing the envelope of where the slug starts falling and falling fast. Let alone slug accuracy at that range is typically poor for most guns. Not all. Typical rifle zeros are 100 yd, or 200 yd Zeros. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted November 7, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 7, 2011 Last year I was shooting 2in groups with the same set up but open sights at 150 sabots arnt like the old smooth bore slugs they can be tack drivers. Yesterday I put 3 in the same hole at 50. My farthest shot on a deer was 183yds lazer confirmed dead run shooting rem copper solids. Even rigt now only being able to shoot 70 yds I'll shoot farther iv always had good results with the chart provided on the box like my .243 I have that sighted in how the box says 1.5 high at 100 and iv shot and droped crows, yotes and ground hogs out to 500 yards just by going off their provided chart and my own factors for wind drift holds. I would of brought it up to 2.5 high at 50 but it was starting to hurt the wallet after the 6 I already fired lol $3 a trigger squeeze Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted November 8, 2011 Super User Posted November 8, 2011 2'' groups @ 150yds without a scope with the tick poor sights on a shotgun? You Sir, are the man. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted November 8, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 8, 2011 2'' groups @ 150yds without a scope with the tick poor sights on a shotgun? You Sir, are the man. Iv been shooting sense I could squeeze a trigger then the army made me better. Iv taught my wife to shoot as good if not better but with the .22 Shea scared of the others Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted November 9, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 9, 2011 I shot it again today from the corner of the horse pasture to the brush pile it's 160yds I put 3 in a coffee can lid standing no rest. I aimed just above it I'm droping roughly 4.5 to 5.5" at 160 so I'm good to go on the 19th. Shot some gourds with the .243 that's good to go once deer ends and I can carry it for coyote. Quote
