Seanyboy Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Has anyone had success with using jigs for bass in the hampton roads area? I always shy away from jigs because they generally mimic crawfish and I don't think crawfish are native this close to saltwater. Also want to try something new since the lakes I fish get steady angling pressure. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 give them a try and report back to us. if not a lot of people are throwing them down there you could have success in presenting something different to the bass. Quote
dhami013 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Hampton roads area is my location. I have done well with black and blue jigs with green pumpkin, black w/ blue fleck, and blue trailers. I've also caught some fish using Siebert outdoors big o jig in pbnj with a falcon lake craw rage craw trailer. Try your own thing. Quote

X2, never fished down there but most of my ponds don't have a population of crawfish (that I know about) and I catch most of my fish on jigs. Quote

Don't underestimate the power of a jig, yes it may be boring and the bites are slow but there is no better bite than the jig in my opinion. The color or colors that I use a LOT of are prodominately brown with green pumpkin and a small amount of blue mixed in on the sides of the jig, 1/2,3/4,1/0 oz football head jigs are the best, I personally like 1/2 oz for the slower fall rate and the 3/4 to 1/0 oz if I want to make sure I stay in contact with the bottom. I had seen a video on here that supports what I have always used for my jigs, and found out that there is something new on the market that strike king has just came out with for skirt color, it's called Blue Craw or you can buy the skirt kit alone it's called Magic Craw, this stuff is what it says it is and works very well in darker waters like your area or in clearer waters like my favorite lake. Swim it along the bottom slow to extra slow until you find what they want and you will find some big fish, you also owe it to yourself to watch their video, Mark has some awesome insite on jig fishing. Good luck and be safe!!! Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 27, 2011 Super User Posted December 27, 2011 Of courtse throw jigs. Jibby Point Crawfish Farm is on the eastern shore so we know crawfish can live near saltwater. And what about Louisiana???? Lots of saltwater down that way. So throw them and post the pics. Happy New Year! Quote
