Teh Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 At what time during the fall/winter do you hang it up until next year (if you do at all)? Just curious.... Quote
Teh Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 Man you guys are so lucky...at least I say that now when it starts freezing here, but I don't think that mid-summer, haha. I will still go out as long as the weather is decent for fishin'. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I stop when the water turns to ice. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 4, 2011 Global Moderator Posted November 4, 2011 Never, I have 2 powerplant lakes an hour away and if it's a mild winter the river never freezes and I hit the deep holes for big blue cats. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted November 4, 2011 Super User Posted November 4, 2011 I stop when the water turns to ice. X2. The ice in my part of TN never gets thick enough for ice fishing so when the water gets hard, you're done...for a while. The good thing is that depending on temps, our water can ice-up and ice-out several times over the winter - giving you some opportunities in the middle of the winter to get a few fish. Last year, we iced up in mid-December, but that melted by the end of the month. I caught a bass on New Years Eve, and another on New Years Day (2011), then the lakes iced-up again until near the end of January. Iced-up again for a week or so in mid-February, then final ice-out by the end of the month. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted November 4, 2011 Super User Posted November 4, 2011 December 31 Actually January & February are the months it's too cold for me. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted November 4, 2011 Super User Posted November 4, 2011 Also 12/31 and I'll start right back up 1/1... that's when the pigs are chasing trout here in CA. Quote
basser89 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 11:59:59PM December 31. I start back up as soon as I get my license in January. Quote
Midnight Splash2 Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I just keep fishing and take the good with the bad. The season is open all year for me. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 5, 2011 Super User Posted November 5, 2011 When my casts start to bounce, which may be in a few weeks. A-Jay Quote
Hound_dog Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I'm another one of those year round fisherman. Maybe let the boat sit a day or two to hit the woods to bag a deer or two but other than that I fish year round. Quote
NoBassPro Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 If you're talking bass, I'm pretty much done for the year. I'll head out a few more times looking for that one fat muskie I never seem to catch, then not do much until ice season rolls around. Mainly target panfish - cuz man they taste good through the ice- then have another short break until season opens. Do a little steelhead fishing in that time frame, but not much. Quote
jeb2 Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Since I moved from MN to Ark 6 years ago, my fishing season has become year round. And some of the best fishing of the year happens in Jan and Feb when the big fish that suspend deep out in the mid-lake areas come up relatively shallow. Last winter was the first winter that I saw any ice to speak of on Beaver Lake, and it was bad enough to stop me from fishing for a couple of weeks. We have a power plant lake an hour away, though, so not all was lost. Quote
RiverFisher13 Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 This year has been the latest i've ever fished up here. but about now will be the latest i ever fish. Instead ill be in the woods trapping, most years anyway. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted November 5, 2011 Super User Posted November 5, 2011 Looks like I'm already done here in Michigan. Too busy with work and family now. I'd be lucky to get out one or two more before it ices over on the lakes. My hands get cold way too fast and it really isn't much fun or even really worth my time going out at that point. Usually I'm done right before Halloween.October,November and December are usually busy months for me.Then I can't start fishing for bass again till Bass Season*(C & R only) opens here which is usually on the last weekend of April. Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 6, 2011 Super User Posted November 6, 2011 Never stop down here, only the target species change, I'm starting to rev it up now, fish more than I do in the summer. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted November 6, 2011 Super User Posted November 6, 2011 When I can no longer break ice to get to open water, I go south for a few days at a time. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted November 6, 2011 Super User Posted November 6, 2011 As soon as the ponds freeze up, I'm done for the year. this should occur pretty soon, as our water temps are in the 40's right now and night time air temps are in the 20's. Suppose to be a warm up this coming week, so we may last another 2 - 3 weeks at best. Good time to clean fishing reels & rods and get tackle re-organized for the April thaw. I do *** you folks from warmer climes. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 6, 2011 Super User Posted November 6, 2011 December. May do some pond fishing in the winter or fish the Hot Side of Lake Anna once the nuclear plant sitting on the earthquake fault is back in operation and the water warms into the 70's. Start again in March. Quote
"BRB" Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I hang it up just until I get some deer meat in the freezer. Then I'm right back out there. Until I get low on the deer meat. Then its back to the woods. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 6, 2011 Super User Posted November 6, 2011 I go year round with breaks here and there for ice and really cold air temps. Quote
tholmes Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I stop when the water turns to ice. ^ This. I'll fish as long as there's open water, but when it's iced over, I'll be at home. Tom Quote
