LWD1982 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Fishing near an airbase do you think a sonic boom would throw off your bite? tx, LWD Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted November 4, 2011 Super User Posted November 4, 2011 I give up, would it? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 4, 2011 Super User Posted November 4, 2011 I really doubt but I'm strickly guessing here. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 4, 2011 Super User Posted November 4, 2011 I asked a question along the same theory regarding the shooting of cannons at a local military base. They guys thought the concussions from the shots had no affect on the bass or other species. We did catch bass that day so I would have to concur with the guys regarding the artillery and the sonic booms not having any impact on the fish. Maybe someone else has another view of the situation. Super User grimlin Posted November 4, 2011 Super User Posted November 4, 2011 There's one place where a train runs through every couple of hours or so and it has never effected the fishing for me. It makes quite a rumble and shakes the ground pretty good. I think if it's an common,I think they adapt to it. Then again It's all my opinion and I'm no biologist. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 4, 2011 Super User Posted November 4, 2011 As mentioned this came up a while ago. The general consensus was the fish adapt and I agree. Much of the water I fish is in the vicinity of Camp Grayling. It's the largest National Guard training facility in the U.S., due to its many ranges and ample maneuver areas. It was founded in 1913 for military training, and now spans 147,000 acres in Crawford, Kalkaska and Otsego counties. Much of that acreage is accessible to the public for hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and other recreational uses when military training is not taking place. http://grayling-mi.com/attractions/historical-sites-2/camp-grayling-military-installation During the summer months. the maneuvers / gunnery training conducted here literally rock the earth for miles. I live just over 30 minutes north of the base and when they fire off "the Big Guns" the window in my house shake, So you can imagine what the lakes / fish feel in and around the base. I have not noticed the fishing being better or worse during times when the gunnery range is in operation. I have however considered wearing hearing protection. A-Jay Quote
Super User webertime Posted November 4, 2011 Super User Posted November 4, 2011 After a Justin Beiber concert here, the fishing on Champlain just plain died for a few weeks... I don't think it was a coincidence... The booms shouldn't bug them. 1 Quote
