Super User Bassn Blvd Posted November 3, 2011 Super User Posted November 3, 2011 The new Abu Revo MGX, you freaks Dicks Sporting Goods have them in stock so I had the clerk unlock the 3 security devices so I could hold it. They are soooooooo light. I'm not quite sold on the $350 price tag, but knowing me, I'll have one very soon. The problem is I'll have to buy another NRX to go with it Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted November 3, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 3, 2011 The MGX? Sorry. YEP, The MGX Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted November 3, 2011 Super User Posted November 3, 2011 Sorry. YEP, The MGX Yea, you're screwed...the NRX seems to be the most popular stick to match with these reels. From what you saw and felt...pros/cons? Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted November 3, 2011 Super User Posted November 3, 2011 Have you read how light a lure it can cast? Like in the Strike King Bitsy Minnow range slighly under 1/8oz? Ive been eyeing it for my 3.4oz Smoke rod Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted November 3, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 3, 2011 I didn't want to hold it for more than a couple minutes or else I would have talked myself into buying it. Honestly, the reel is super light, 5.4 ounces I believe. The spool spun nice, but most reels do that right out of the box. I realy liked the design but won't know for sure how it fits my hand until I fasten it to a rod. I am almost certain that it isn't going to feel good on just any ol' reel seat though. I've really grown to like my Premier, even after returning the first two for noise issues, and can only hope the MGX is better. I wanted to use it for jigs/worms, but it is so small and light that it feels as though it won't have enough guts. I'm am so sold on the Lews TP that I'm having a serious debate with myself if the MGX is really going to be that much better. I guess if worse comes to worse, I could always return it if I don't like it. Does anyone know if Dicks S.P has a good return policy? Quote

I've never had to return anything there, though I've had to deal with more ***** employees there than normal. If you are worried about it not having balls, strap it on a 2 or 3 powered NRX. No lefty, so I'm out. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 3, 2011 Super User Posted November 3, 2011 Shame it's only a righty for now. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted November 3, 2011 Super User Posted November 3, 2011 Does anyone know if Dicks S.P has a good return policy? Ive returned a Shimano Stradic got my money back and exchanged one Stradic for another Stradic no issues. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 3, 2011 Super User Posted November 3, 2011 I think a return would be no problem. I bought a rod, took it back a week later and i just said it didn't live up to my expectations.....no problem. Quote
Jason Penn Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 No lefty, so I'm out. they got this one on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/ABU-Garcia-Revo-MGX-SHS-L-Low-Profile-Baitcasting-Reel-LEFT-/380377361868?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item589041edcc#ht_3059wt_724 Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted November 3, 2011 Super User Posted November 3, 2011 I agree, the MGX is a great little reel, really. I've got two ordered and a third to come. They're going on a pair of NRX and one GLX. Quote

I did the same thing with a tec spec rod after a couple days and stated the same thing when I returned it with no problems. Quote
barroncooper Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 yeah I held one at the local tackle shop and holy crap was it light. this particular one wasn't the smoothest as I've felt in other revos. maybe a cleaning and re-lube would wake it up. with every revo i've had which has been an sx a stx and a premier, has felt incredible out of the box and up to about 4 months worth of usage and then the gears get to whining on the retrieve. maybe another material is used in the gearset on the mgx. I personally don't feel that the duralumin used is up to the task. Quote
tossin hooks Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 My MGX is on a Falcon 7'2" McClelland MH/F rod. Weighs in around 8 oz. Great for swim jigs. Quote

I work for a Dicks Sporting goods and as long as you keep your reciept they are good for 90 days. You will be able to return it no questions asked. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 7, 2011 Super User Posted November 7, 2011 When I touched it, held it and caressed it, some 20 years later it cost me college tuition for 2, and 2 weddings. I no longer touch anything......... Quote
