bassman31783 Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 My wife & I needed a table real bad so i've decided to try my hand at making one. Plus I think it would be cool to say that I made "this" table. I'm not a handy man at all so this is quite the undertaking for me. Especially being that I've never made anything before now. I've finished assembling the top and the sanding is almost done. Just need to do some more sanding, stain & seal. So far I'm really pleased with the results. My main question, to any woodworkers, is how do I attached the legs to the table. I want to be able to take the legs off if I need to in case we move. Is there something that I can insert into the legs that i can secure the screw to so I'm not damaging the wood anytime I'm taking off or attaching the legs. I'm also guessing that I will need to make a apron to attach the legs too. But how do I attach the apron to the table. We don't want the legs at the ends but rather closer to the center so the top has a bit of overhang to it. Hope that makes sense. I'm just stuck a little and thought that there might be someone on here who could give me some pointer or send me in the right direction. Thanks. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 there are several ways to do it. You can drill through the apron and fasten it. Then plug or leave open the holes. Or they make 90 deg bends that you can fasten the legs with. You can also dowl it. I would opt to make the apron. Dont put the legs too close to the center or the table will rock or fall over if something heavy is on the edge. Google it, there are alot of videos that show step by step. So far it looks great!!! Super User Hi Salenity Posted November 2, 2011 Super User Posted November 2, 2011 You may want to get a piece of wood say 20''x40'' x3/4''. just something smaller than the top. Screw all 4 legs to the board 7 then screw that to the table top. I am not sure I am following you correctly on the apron but will "pocket holes" & screws work? Quote

Super User slonezp Posted November 2, 2011 Super User Posted November 2, 2011 A dowel screw may work. It's a screw threaded on both ends which is used on wooden banisters. Quote
