I am looking for a new cranking rod, I plan on using it for shallow and medium divers.

Are the KVD cranking rods worth looking at? or are they the typical quantum hit or miss quality?

I don't know about the KVD rods but I have a 7' St. Croix Pro Glass and love it for shallow to medium runners. It fires baits a long ways and keeps skin hooked fish on but has enough backbone to pull big fish away from heavy cover.

I as well have never tried the KVD rods so I couldn't give you an answer on those rods. I have a Kistler Magnesium crank bait rod and it is awesome. I use this rod for all my shallow running crankbaits. You can cast a bait well beyond your target so it can get down to the strike zone quicker. It is 7' with fast action. Super strong as well. I just bought a new Kistler rod with the micro guides and man this thing is sweet, talking about slinging a bait way out there, almost unspooled my reel.

Never tried the KVD rods. I got a Powell Endurance 7ft that works awesomely. I highly recommend them.

I think you could get a new St. Croix Avid for about $190 or easily find a lightly used one online for $130-$140. I use the Avid 7' M/H Moderate and the 7' Med Moderate for my cranking duties. I also have two G Loomis cranking sticks that are extremely nice but more in the $240 new and $180 used range. Both have lifetime warranties so you get that security for paying a little more. The St. Croix warranty transfers on used rods, not sure about G. loomis anymore.

Sorry I know mine is off topic and if can maybe shoot me a PM.

I'm ready to eat crow. I have fished Lamiglas glass rods for 8 years, Excel, Certified Pro and the SR705R and never thought of changing...until I fished a Dobyns Champion 705 glass. Got one, love it and would/could not be happier. At least consider this stick. It is pretty sweet. I have a 704 on the way.
