80pruf Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I read not to long ago that some of the tour pros use scent on some of their hardbaits...more specifically their crankbaits. I saw that they were using something that looked like a wax type of attractant almost like a larger version of chap stick. Anybody know what type of attractant would work good for hardbaits? I use liquid scents on my soft plastics but it doesn't seem to stay on the crankbaits but a cast or two. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
-ebby- Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 megastrike should stay on but i don't use it on faster moving baits Quote
Incheon Basser Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 i'm a smoker so i use scent on all my baits to get my stink off them... i use Yum shad scent on all my hard baits...cheap oil based and better than nothing... a also spray a bit in my crank bait box at the end of each trip...they come out smellin fishy and the oil keeps the water left in the box from messin with my hooks Quote
Furbit Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I believe, well at least some of them are using a product called bass wax on there crankbaits. It comes in a container like chap stick. Bio Edge also has a chap stick type container. However Megastrike works great for me and stays on the crankbait for a very long time. Quote
aarogb Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I use the same scent on hardbaits that I use on soft baits. That being said, I use MegaStrike. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 3, 2009 Super User Posted August 3, 2009 I been testing scents for quite a few years now. So far my best results have been with baitmate, yum and the bang scents. I haven't tried anything else yet. These seem to work great so far. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted August 3, 2009 Super User Posted August 3, 2009 I may get me some of this stuff. Usually I fish crankbaits for reaction, but I guess with combination of scent I don't see why it wouldn't work. If you're fishing chocolate milk water the combination of sound and scent should help increase odd of fish finding it... I've seen megastrike before at BPS, but I've never thought about putting them on crankbait. Just out of curiously, how long will these scent last on fast moving crankbait? Anyone ever experiment with different type of scent on same bait while reeling it at same speed? To see how long they last? Or if they have increased your catch? Quote
