SDoolittle Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I think WVU and TCU will be nice replacements for aTm and Mizzou. Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 28, 2011 Super User Posted October 28, 2011 Good selections. I would have rather had WVU in the SEC than Missouri. However, the SEC school presidents seem to be fooling themselves into thinknig that having higher academic standings is important. What is important is money and WVU would fill more seats than Missouri and have a broader appeal across the nation. At least Oliver Luck found a good home for WVU which is good for their program. jeremyt Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 How much is it costing these schools to transfer conferences. Earlier in the year when they were talking about an ACC team going to the SEC , they mentioned something like 13 million to leave the conference. I know the SEC is the powerhouse football conference and that football brings in the most money for an athletic department, but how long will it take the schools to cover the difference? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted October 29, 2011 Super User Posted October 29, 2011 Nothing like screwing your fans with the cost of traveling to games that are 24hrs or better away , the fans in W.va can't be too happy. Quote
Captain Obvious Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Anything that makes the big 12 stronger is good by me. I just can't wait for A&M to come running back after they get smacked around in the SEC Quote

You would be surprised. Most of the fans out here are very excited about having teams like OU and UT visit their stadium on a regular basis, and anything is better than staying in the soon-to-be defunct Big East. Quote

I disagree on the Big East going out. Pitt was not a football power house and Cuse certainly was not either. WVU and Louisville could both leave and not hurt my feelings. Now add Boise, Army, Navy, Air Force, and maybe BYU and you have an even better football conference than you do now. Plus having Service Academies in your conference certainly will give you some political clout when it comes to keeping your BCS standings. And then there is the Notre Dame wildcard. Independent in footbal (for now) but all other sports play in the big east. 1 Quote
SDoolittle Posted October 29, 2011 Author Posted October 29, 2011 The Big East may not die outright, but they are no longer relevant in college football. They haven't been for a while. Sending UCONN (8-4) to the Fiesta Bowl last year is a perfect example. Adding the service academies is an act of desperation, and it will not strengthen the conference at all. Seriously, Army has one of the worst teams in FBS football year in and year out. Navy and Air Force are mediocre at best. Boise State and BYU are anything but a done deal. The Big East will need some serious help in order to hold onto its automatic BCS birth. Why do you think they were considering merging with a couple of midmajor conferences to create one superconference? Quote

tipptruck1 Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I really think that we will see 4-6 super conferences in the next 10 years. I wonder if the economy didn't go down the toilet. Would all this be happening? If they go they way of super conferences. I think each conference will have to have there own playoff system. A simple 4 or 6 team playoff in each would be nice. Then after that if the bcs and bowl games are still around work out the games from the playoffs. Quote
