JigMe Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 So, I took my wife out for a fishing trip and along the way she wants me to explain, “Why do you need 20 different lures to catch bass?” Long store short, she wants to start a little competition. She is going to use worms plus Jigs, and I can use all the lures in my tackle box. Well, the trip went on for about 5 hours and she actually out fished me 3 to 1. And then, she went on about stop spending hundreds on lures that you don’t need. That was the longest 20 minutes ride back home, but she did bring up a valid point. I was throwing jerk baits, lipless, SK 1.5, spinner baits, etc. But she did out fish me with just a pack of zoom trick worm, and ONE northstar Jig/baby craw. What do you guys think? Do we really need all those lures? I really would like everyone’s input on this, thanks. Quote
Bob C Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 My wife did the same thing to me last week end. I caught two dinks. She said make me a drop thing. A what? You mean a drop shot? I rigged one for her and the first cast she pulled up a 4 pounder. She was good about it and didn't rub it in tooo much. Quote
NoBassPro Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I would say, no, it isn't necessary to have a ton of tackle unless you are fishing for a living. But buying new fishing gear is one of life's greatest pleasures 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 28, 2011 Global Moderator Posted October 28, 2011 Sounds like you should have payed attention to what she was doing and fished a slower moving bait Quote

Touche' Yea, I wouldn't do that, unless of course you like sleeping on the couch. I'm a lucky guy. My wife is a bigger tackle junkie than me. Quote

Waterford Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Late spring into summer my wife womps I disagree when it comes to the number of fish we each catch. She only uses Senkos. She lives and dies by them. They are the only thing she wants for birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted October 30, 2011 Super User Posted October 30, 2011 It's a hobby and my wife seems to understand that. However.....I cannot get a boat till I get her a house first. Guessing another 2-3 years before that happens. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted October 30, 2011 Super User Posted October 30, 2011 Do we need "all" of the tackle most of us carry? Probably not. I have some stuff that I bought on impulse or before I figured what works best for me that is just ballast. I also have stuff that was once on my favorite list that doesn't get used much anymore. Most of us probably could easily get by with less. That doesn't mean we can get by on one bait IF we want to EFFECTIVELY catch fish in all conditions. My wife fishes with me regularly. She uses some sort of T-rigged plastic most of the time and at times out fishes me. Her personal best came on a chatterbait though, after I had found that was the bait to use that day. She knows that most of the time she can catch fish the way she likes to fish, but she understands that at times other baits and techniques work better. Your wife's logic: A: Plastics catch fish. B: Today plastics worked best. C: Plastics always work best. Tell her that her syllogism is faulty, and you need to buy a couple LC Pointers because of falling water temps. Quote

Especially if your wife's gear has to be pink! Quote
