So I headed out to one of my ponds that I haven't fished in about six months today. This place holds some enormous bass. Anyway, I hiked through the woods to my favorite spot, and what should I see? Wires run between the banks from the trees, hanging about 6 feet above the water. At this particular spot there were three of them spread out about twenty feet apart. As if it isn't hard enough to fish off the brush covered banks now I have to deal with wires. So I calm myself and hike to another prime fishing spot, same thing at that one too. As well as the other five great fishing locations on said pond. I ran into another fisherman heading back to my original spot and inquired if he knew anything about the wires. He told me some of the "locals" from cardboard town down the road set them up. Apparently they run fishing lines down them with live bait on them and use them as a kind of trotline. Ok, that's understandable, but don't be greedy about it. I mean other people fish here too. Anyway, on my way back towards my spot. I was walking the downed tree trail on the steep side of the hill, this hill is at about a sixty to seventy degree angle with a narrow trail down it, about fifteen feet above the shoreline. As was I was walking the trees my ankle snagged something and down I went. I rolled, banged, slid, and smashed straight down the hillside and into the water. Luckily I got my backpack off and my rods down before I hit the ground. I crawl back up the hill and what should I see? One of those stupid Brown wires tied off to a tree about 8 inches off the ground, crossing the trail! With a roar I cut the dang thing down with my pliers, as well as everyother one I came in contact with on my way back to the truck. I'm still madder than hell about those dang wires. As if getting my lures hung up every third cast wasn't bad enough. Saturday I'm gonna go pull em out of the water from the other bank and remove the rest of them. Here's a pic of some of em. These two were a bit higher over the water than most the others.

Don't know if something like that would be legal? At the very least I'd say it would be like a trotline that should have to be marked with the owners name, number, and address and taken down when not in use. I would have done the same thing you did, at least with the one set in the path.

Its a "private" lake. The pharmaceutical company that I used to work for has an office building next to it. They own the lake and the land, but don't really care who fishes it as long as they don't get on the office side without permission. And if I recall correctly, myself and four others are the only ones with permission to fish the pond, as well as the office side bank.
