lynyrdsky1 Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Just wanted to let you guys know I did it!! I got into unversity of alabama and mississippi state. My college counceller and all my friends are happy, I was happy, my parents on the other hand...... Called my mom and told her I got in and she said ok that's fine but she didn't seem to care that much. called my dad and told him and the first thing he said "do not get excited" I asked him why and he said that it may be a bad idea for me to go to college because my sister went and she bombed out in her first semester. Why is it everytime I accomplish something it has to be taken away from me? Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted October 27, 2011 Super User Posted October 27, 2011 It's gonna make you work that much harder. Ever since I've known you, you appear, to me anyway, that you like to prove the naysayers wrong, so go out and prove them wrong! Congrats bud, I'm very happy for you! Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted October 27, 2011 Super User Posted October 27, 2011 Don't let anyone hold you back, you know you can do it. Just more incentive to do well. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted October 27, 2011 Super User Posted October 27, 2011 Congratulations on being accepted. College is a wonderful opportunity to learn about a lot of things, including yourself. It will open many doors that are otherwise closed. Getting it done while you're young is much easier than doing it a piece at a time while working and raising a family-trust me on this. If you have the opportunity, desire, and intellect to do it (you obviously do) then go for it. Why your parents are not encouraging is impossible to know here. Maybe they think they are protecting you. Maybe they have issues of their own. What I can tell you is at this point in your life, what you do, and to a very large extent how you feel is up to you. Your accomplishment is your own. Don't let the negative attitude of others control yours. Life is too short. Good luck. 1 Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted October 27, 2011 Super User Posted October 27, 2011 Congrats on being accepted. It's sounds like your parents don't want to spend the money because of your sister , that's sad but they may know something about you that we don't. There's always two sides to every story. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!I. The accomplishment was getting accepted and you have done that, no one can take that away from you. Now the next one is to go, enjoy your college years, but don't forget why you are there.... Quote
Sfritr Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Just remember: Hard Work beats Talent when Talent doesn't Work Hard. Those are both excellent schools. Don't waste the opportunity. Congrats!!!! Quote

Bass XL Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Why is it everytime I accomplish something it has to be taken away from me? I try to bite my tongue, and hate to say this...but I always see comments about your parents, and to be honest, the way they act isn't parent-like at all (and is quite immature). I'm sorry you have to put up with the BS that you do. Congrats on the acceptance though, that is a phenomenal accomplishment. 1 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Congrats on getting accepted!!! Who cares what your parents think, this is your decision and only YOU can do this. Now go to Mississippi St. (Im an LSU guys, so NO ALABAMA ) and show em what your made of. Quote

Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted October 28, 2011 Super User Posted October 28, 2011 Congratulations, Little Homie! Both of those schools are excellent choices. I recommend Alabama, even though I'm an Auburn fan. But hey that's your decision to make. And as for your parents and any other naysayers, to Heck with them! If people are to petty or whatever to be excited for ya and to support your choices, your better off without them. Don't let em getcha down little homie. I'm proud of ya, that's a dang fine accomplishment. Quote
