Buckeye Bassin Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I'm fairly new (less than 3 years) to serious bass fishing. I am fishing a small deep lake in Northwest Ohio. I was wondering if anybody had any advice or tips on fishing a jerk bait in the Fall. The air temp is gonna be in the 40's this weekend and the water temp is in the 50's. I got a couple nice ones this past wknd on a crankbait and will probably continue with that, but was wondering if I'd be wasting my time tying on a suspending jerk bait. Any advice would be great!! Thanks! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 25, 2011 Super User Posted October 25, 2011 My friend did a great piece on them: http://www.burniehaney.com/files/Cold_Water_Jerkbaits_LOO_Spring_09__1_.pdf He knows what's up.... Quote
Buckeye Bassin Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Thanks alot! I'll check it out. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 25, 2011 Super User Posted October 25, 2011 Just reverse the migration for winter from spring, and you'll have the important location info down. Quote
Buckeye Bassin Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Can you explain a little more specifically what you mean by "reverse the migration"? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 25, 2011 Super User Posted October 25, 2011 The article describes bass moving from their winter locations to spawning grounds. Jerkbaits are an intercept tool. Just reverse that analogy to intercepting them on their way from summer locations to winter locations. Essentially, wherever you found them in spring, they should be close. Quote
Buckeye Bassin Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 OK cool. Thanks a lot! I'll let you know how it turns out this weekend. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 25, 2011 Super User Posted October 25, 2011 Pics, or it didn't happen! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 25, 2011 Global Moderator Posted October 25, 2011 I always catch them pretty well on a suspending jerkbait in the fall. Usually find them close to the same areas I caught them in the spring in shallower areas close to deep water where they'll spend the winter. Only one way to find out for sure though! Quote
Red Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Hey brother! Glad to see you back on BR! (he really is my brother ) I have had luck with them throwing them to the bank, couple quick jerks, then just let it sit for a bit. I think the general rule is the colder the water the longer the pause. Cliff Quote
