Super User deep Posted October 24, 2011 Super User Posted October 24, 2011 Who here has tried it out? Sounds like a cool idea. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 24, 2011 Super User Posted October 24, 2011 How much fishing time did it take to catch a triple? Those 3 fish put absolutely no fight at all, either the set up hampered the fishes ability to battle or it was staged and the fish were already tired out. That set up does not interest me a bit, for open water I'd stick with light tackle. It's kind of a variation of an umbrella rig. Quote
River Rat316 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Illegal in MN.... just like everything else Quote
tholmes Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Illegal in MN.... just like everything else Illegal in Kansas also. Tom Quote

Does sort of look like a perch jerking setup, or one of those offshore attractor rigs they use when trolling. Gives me an idea for tying up a Dropshot Sabiki Rig! Quote

The few times I caught doubles on a crankbait, the two bass would come in spiraling together with no fight at all. They seem to get in each other's way, or whatever.. not saying this video was or was not staged, I have no way to know that. Paul Elias says he caught doubles on that rig more than a few times, too. What interests me about the rig is that you can simulate a school of baitfish, that in itself I find really cool. If you can put 5 hudds on that rig, and have a sturdy enough rod to cast and fish that - it'd weigh more than 20 ozs - you have 5 stupid stocked trouts swimming along slowly! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 24, 2011 Super User Posted October 24, 2011 The few times I caught doubles on a crankbait, the two bass would come in spiraling together with no fight at all. That's what I was going to say. It's only happened a few times for me, but when the 2nd fish bites, the "fight" becomes weight. Quote
zip pow Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I ordered mine on the second day of tourney so I'll let y'all know how it works in a week. The company is know back ordered for five weeks glad I got mine ordered early Quote

I just noticed this post SirSnook and imediately thought the same thing. I just finished a post on a similar thread In the General Bass Fishing Forum saying it was a saltwater rig making it's way to freshwater prior to viewing your post. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 24, 2011 Super User Posted October 24, 2011 Until you don't realize there's an abrasion in the line and break off $100 worth of baits in 1 cast. 1 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I think it looks neat, but would just be situational. It seems like it would work well in the fall and summer on schools. Quote
ynnhoj86 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 just what i need, a rig that i can lose 5 baits instead of just one. LOL Quote

Not much difference between a sabiki rig, chicken rig and the freshwater dropshot rig. Quote
jdw174 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 JMO, but I find it way too expensive. Besides, it's illegal here in TN. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 25, 2011 Super User Posted October 25, 2011 The owner/inventor has been winning tournaments with the rig. I fished Make-A-Wish out of McFarland Harbor (Florence, AL) a couple of weeks ago. The Alabama Rig won that tournament, too. Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 25, 2011 Super User Posted October 25, 2011 And I thought the Alabama rig is when you put your bullet sinker on your line backwards. Oops. That is the Arkansas rig. Sorry. Quote
Jim_M Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Alabama Rig. Call me undecided, very undecided. Whats after it? j Quote
Super User deep Posted October 25, 2011 Author Super User Posted October 25, 2011 Alabama Rig. Call me undecided, very undecided. Whats after it? j We need a Virginia rig.. Come on fellow Virginians, we can do it. Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 TWRA amended the rule for Tennessee. We'll be able to throw it...with 3 hooks of any size. The other two baits would not be able to have hooks. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 26, 2011 Super User Posted October 26, 2011 LOL, why can you only throw it with three hook points, when you can legally throw a jerkbait with nine? Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Who knows... The original rule was if 3 or more baits were being use on one line the hooks could be no larger than #6's. I guess its a decent compromise. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted October 26, 2011 Super User Posted October 26, 2011 I made a knock-off of it a few minutes ago. Took me about 5 minutes to put it together. Cost less than $6 for the parts. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 26, 2011 Super User Posted October 26, 2011 That won't get bit, it doesn't have a pretty paint job! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted October 26, 2011 Super User Posted October 26, 2011 It does now, I "painted" the head and swivel aluminum ferrules with a black magic marker so the fish won't be "attracted" to the bright metal, LOL. I am going to give it to a guy that has a tournamet soon since he can't find any of the "real thing" and was wanting to know how make some. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted October 27, 2011 Super User Posted October 27, 2011 Do you use lures of all the same color, to imitate a school of baitfisf or do you mix the colors up? Quote
