Thinking of drawing up a few handels to cut out on my cnc mill out of carbon fiber ..

How many people think they are worth it and or would be intrested in some ..going to do CF handels and alinumium let me know what you think ....

Ps wrote this on moble phone ..so spelling may be off a little sorry

Does anyone know the weight difference between aluminum and carbon handles? I think my four revo sx's have steel handles?????? Correct me if I am wrong. Get some pics on here, I would be interested in regular handles if you cant do the swept handles. It would help lighten the ol sx's up a touch.

Other than CF handles looking really cool, they really don't offer much more functionality. You might have some people interested though, best of luck.

In theory, they do have functionality. Metal handles will eventually suffer fatigue and break, carbon handles will not. How long it takes is up for debate.

There's definitely no debating that CF handles are better than the aluminum handles. I just don't see how their high price justifies such a minuscule weight difference--often times not the case. If it has bearings, it may be smoother, but it will be heavier. Again, I'm not discrediting CF handles, just my opinion.

Better? I wouldn't go that far, aluminum is strong yet its better at absorbing shock. Can't say the same for carbon fiber. Far as durable goes, I'd stick with aluminum over CF

I've heard this before. The last gentleman to try this didn't come through.

Do you have a source for laminated carbon fiber? If so, why not give it a shot since you have the CNC mill. You real problem will be the posts. You can order, shims, screws and bearings. Not sure if you can order the posts. You may have to make those. And then you have to figure out how to attach the posts to the CF handles. Nothing insurmountable, but a few things to consider.

If you have to make your own CF laminate, the time and equipment required could very be prohibitive.

Here's a different idea; one I'd seriously consider if I had a CNC mill. Get some hardened aluminum and do a take off on the Livre handles japantackle sells. These are so cool, but are way too costly for me to consider.

Aluminum does not absorb shock better than carbon fiber. Watch modern marvels.

This all depends on the alloy and treatment of the aluminum. Springboards for your swiming pool are aluminum, as are the wings of a 747. Those things flex up and down ~6ft during take off and landings.

Like wise the quality of fiber, layout, and resin in a Carbon Fiber part CAN make a tremendously rigid or very flexy structure. The fibers themselves have a pretty much infinite strength, it's the resins that hold them together that fail.

The material has to make sense for the structure and the given stresses it should encounter. With Carbon Fiber, once it is ready to fail (snap, crack) it gives no warning where a metal will "yield" before it snaps.

In my mind a carbon handle is 99% Bling. If I laid my rod down and it was reel handle down and something fell/stepped on it I wouldn't trust it at all.
