Dockhead Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Looking at these two for my new lipless crankbait rod. Been using graphite, want to try the glass. Obviously the spook/trap rod was made for this technique, but I like the length of the 753. Also it says "big traps" for the spook/trap, I throw 1/2 ounce more than anything, but 3/4 a decent amount. Usually fishing hydrilla or eel grass. Do I need the heavy of the spook'trap rod or is the medium heavy likely to suffice for ripping baits through the grass? Any thoughts? Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I have the Powell 703CB Glass rod and it handles traps up to 1/2 oz just fine rippin em out of hydrilla. It does get overpowered by 3/4 oz traps though. I would think the 753 would be similiar. Quote
Mils Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 706cb is my favorite trap rod also a great rod for throwing squarebills around cover. I tried using my 753 for traps and did not like it around grass. But the 753 is by far my favorite deep crank rod Quote
WCCT Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I have the Powell Trap/Spook rod and love it! I throw mainly 1/2 oz lipless baits, but it handles 3/4oz baits really well too. I actually bought this rod for a trip down to Clear Lake in Cali to throw big spooks with. It performed awesome at that too. I handled several 5-7lb. bass on that trip with no difficulty. Trap fishing is one of my go to techniques, so I have really given this rod a work over and it rocks! Quote
