3dees Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I would like to add a jackplate to my boat next spring. my dash has no room for a wp guage. would you replace the volt meter with a wp guage. I have a volt meter on my gps. is that good enough? I know I can add an external gauge but I would rather not go that route. Quote
royal0014 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I assume wp is water pressure? The alternative to a water pressure gauge on an outboard is to turn your head and observe the pee stream. So I would rather have the volt meter, 'cause you can't 'see' that going south. jmho Quote
3dees Posted October 20, 2011 Author Posted October 20, 2011 thanks, but like I said I have a volt meter on my GPS. I just don't know if it's the same as the one in the console. it's really not smart to run without a water pressure gauge when your raising your engine on a jack plate. Quote

Its really not smart running without a wp guage anytime. You never know if you have sand in the system and its not getting enough water. Just because its peeing doesnt mean its getting enough wp. I would certainly change the voltage gauge for a wp gauge. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted October 22, 2011 Super User Posted October 22, 2011 In my opinion there are only two essential guages on the console. The number one priority is the Tachometer. Number two priority is the Water Pressure guage. The rest are just nice to have. Like you said, you have a VM in the GPS. If it's wired to the cranking battery, it's showing the same thing as the dash VM just a lot more accurate. Of course, I'm not real sure why you need the JP guage. That's kinda like the trim guage, both of which you can tell just by the feel of the boat/sound of the motor as how they are set. The only time I see either being needed is if you have a bad neck and can't turn your head to see if they are down before punching it on the hole shot. Quote
