BayouBassAssassin Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I don't have any deep diving cranks or any other lure that is obviously meant to be fished in deep water. In the pond I've been fishing I can usually catch all I want with brush hogs and worms along the bank, but lately the bite has slowed down along the bank. I figure that the fish have moved deeper because its so hot here. What are some lures that I would be able to try and catch deeper bass with? Thanks Quote

aarogb Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Certain baits work best in certain conditions. First off, tell us how deep you are fishing, then tell us are there any weeds or grass present? We need details and lots of them to give you the best advice. Quote
hawgwalker Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Rig your brush hogs and worms on a carolina rig. All you'll need is a barrel swivel Quote
BayouBassAssassin Posted July 30, 2009 Author Posted July 30, 2009 I think it's about 10 ft deep. Thats only a guess from diving down after a rod one time. There is a deep spot then it rises up to about a 2 feet of water and I can see weeds all over the bottom in the shallow water. Quote

I would be throwing a light Carolina rig (1/4 oz.) where the waters rises up from 10 ft. to 2 ft. Try an finesse worm as the bait for the Carolina rig, It will give you confidence that fish are there because it gets the most amount of bites. Quote
BenoBreath Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 A 1/2-3/4 oz. high quality, tandem willow/willow spinnerbait, slowrolled on the bottom. Good Luck !! BB Quote

tnbassfisher Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 You can also weed some lizards the same as stated above. Those are normally my go to. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 30, 2009 Super User Posted July 30, 2009 If you're getting bit on brush hogs & worms why change? Quote
Willzx225 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 If you're getting bit on brush hogs & worms why change? x2! Just move out deeper with them. That would probably be your best bet since you already have confidence in them. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 31, 2009 Super User Posted July 31, 2009 Stick with what your doing, but try some different soft plastics and jigs. Specifically, the Rage Tail Lobster on a Evolution Shak-E2 jig; Rage Tail 10" Ananconda, GYCB 6 1/2" Kut Tail and/or Gene Larew 7 1/2" Salty Ring Worm. Hard, deep diving lures are probably out. Fishing from the bank you will lose them all. I fish ponds from the bank a lot and this lure class is not an option. 8-) Quote
