basscrusher Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 The closest trout waters I can think of would be out toward Front Royal, unless you count Accotink Creek in Fairfax. Not exactly the bucolic trout experience there, however. Quote
quanjig Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Accotink hasn't stocked trout in about 3 years now. All the dam repair and dredging operations. Off topic, worst money the park authority ever spent! Still as shallow as ever. 3 years of nothing and all it did was fatten someones wallet! Quote
kidnikarus1 Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Holmes Run in Fairfax County should be stocked soon. Smells like a sewer though.... @Quanjig...I went to Lake Accotink yesterday. The dam is in unbelievable condition. The path between the overflow and the creek is destroyed. Chunks of the payment everywhere. There was a piece that was just sitting in the creek. Looks like a huge lawsuit waiting to happen. It seems like that place getting crushed with every major storm. Quote
Fishing4SquidDuck Posted October 21, 2011 Author Posted October 21, 2011 Does anyone know some good natural tout creeks within an hour or 2 of spotsy Quote
basscrusher Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 start your search here: http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/trout/area-maps/ click on the area of the map closest to you (either 1 or 2 I'd say) and it should list both natural and managed streams (some of those overlap). The best place I know from my fly-fishing friends is Mossy Creek near Harrisonburg, but I believe it is mostly bordered by private land. That site should have several other options. Keep in mind, however, that many trout streams are meant to be waded (with waders on...trout water is cold) so you often may find bank fishing tough due to overhanging obstacles on the shoreline. Fishing4SquidDuck Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 oh ive got my waders pulled out that is why i was asking i just got a new reeel last month and havnt done any trout fishing so i was really hopeing i could try and get a few before it got to cold. Quote
endless Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I have never fished for trout at AP Hill but the guy at Hunting run swears by it. He shown me some pics of the ones he caught over 20". Their stock trout there. I'm not sure what I did with me rules book for AP Hill since I bass fish there all the time. It's $5 a day and 3 trout limit if I remember correctly. I'm not so sure if need the trout license or the AP Hill license as well but if want 804-633-8244 or 804-633-8219 I think one of those is the game check station. I have three of their numbers and I seem to always call the wrong one when I try to find out if Smoot's is open to fish, lol. I think they stock them in Feb to April if I remember correctly. Quote

Ahhh that's my old stomping grounds. The Jackson river above Lake Moomaw is a great stream for trout. That's at least 3.5 hour drive from Spotsylvania. Maybe even 4. Quote
