Wow Allot of nice setups.

Good lord Deep 80# braid. Your not playing are you.

One of mine is 6'8 M-XF Carbonlite, Pflueger Supreme 8035MG, 10# XPS Carbongold. My shaky head setup.

Ahh, but 80 lb Samurai has the diameter of 17 lb mono line. I don't care if the actual test strength is 80 or 50 or even 17 lb. I need a low stretch line with a diameter of 15-20 lb mono. Plus, because the shock resistance of braid is low due to the low stretch, a higher test strength helps against casting off baits on backlashes. I learnt to use braid + leader for swimbaits from a post Matt Allen made on his website. He uses 80 lb Power Pro, which probably has a larger diameter than 80 lb Samurai. But of course, he throws bigger baits on a bigger reel.

Sounds like a nice set-up, especially the reel. Carbonlites are great rods I understand, especially if we believe what Clary says :P JK

I'm almost running out of setups to post, but here's my cranking combo.

Pinnacle Perfecta 7'8" MH cranking rod,

Citica 201B5

12 lb Sufix Siege.

On the bang for the buck-o-meter, I give this an 8. You can probably fish a heluva lot more than just shaky heads with it as well.

St. Croix Avid AVS63MLXF

Shimano CI4 2500

Invisx 6#

What and why: for vertical drop shot in 15 feet or more water with zero cover. The rod is short, helps keep my bait in the cone when in 200 kHz mode on both the kayak and bass boat, is perfect for detecting tiny "lift" and "pressure" bites you get from stingy smallmouth, the line is thin enough to get additional bites, and strong enough for tough smallies. it is stretchier than others, but that's good when you get a strong fish on a short leash by the boat. The reel has an upgraded Carbontex drag, set up wet. I really appreciate the rapid line pickup that the 6:1 ratio offers. I think it's 34 IPT or something close. All in all, a joy to use. Good enough for the avatar fish, a 5 lb. 12 oz. Erie smallie.

Nice setup, J. I'd say 8.5 for the rod, 9.5 for the reel, and 9.5 for the line, for an overall average of 9.17

Since you did your drop shot setup, I'll do mine, which is similar:

Rod: 6' 8" Shimano Cumara M XFast

Reel: Shimano Stradic Ci4 2500

Line: 8lb Seaguar Invizx

Shane, I'm not real familar with the Shimamo Products, but probably a 9 on hear say. My dropshot setup is a St Croix LTBS69MLXF, Abu Soron STX20 filled with 8# Nanofil.

But a fav of mine is my Gloomis MBR843, Revo Premier and 12# Gamma. I love fishing this with a 5/16 oz Jewel jig and a Net Bait Baby Craw.

Both nice setups and really like the St. Croix setup and give them both a 9

These are my two current use crankbait setups. I use them for shallow to mid diver cranks and 1/4 oz spinnerbaits as well as small jerkbaits and topwaters on occasion.

Casting:

Kistler CRR 7' M/F 1/8-1/2oz

Quantum Kinetic 6.3:1

Cabelas Flouro 12#

Spinning

Cabelas Prodigy 7' M/F

Quantum Catalyst PTi-20B

Cabelas 6# Flouro (Main Spool)

Power Pro 30# Braid (Backup Spool)

Casting 6

Spinning 5

My Spro Frog Combo:

Dobyns Champion Elite Series 735 Casting Rod

Skeet Reese Model Revo

Samurai Braid 55lb

Have used various combinations and I would say my hook ratio with this particular setup can hang with Dean Rojas! Reel has tons of drag to pull them from the slop and rod has enough backbone to handle the job without being clunky.

8.5 of ten. The Citica is still a workhorse of a reel, and the Pinnacle rod is seriously under-rated.

Another Crank rig, then, shall we?

8/10. Love the reel, rod is not my cup of tea, never used that line.

My cranking set up:

Rod: St Croix Legend Tournament 7'11" H power/Mod action "Magnum Cranker"

Reel: Shimano Curado 201DPV

Line: Power Pro 20lb braid, I'll use 10lb Trilene 100% fluoro as a leader when I am around rocks/zebe's, but straight braid when ripping big cranks out of deep grass.

Reel: 9.5/10 (LOVE this reel...just wrong hand :P )

Line: 6/10 (Never used braid for cranking, but it seems it would work for deep weeds, but I dont like power pro braid much)

My light crankin combo:

Rod: 7' M/M Carbonlite

Reel: Shimano Curado 200B5

Line: 12lb Suffix Seige

If ask me I like this setup, I have the 7' MH-F carbonlite that I use for buzzbaits. The reel I have the E5 and absolutely love it. I never tried Seige besides 40#(catfish) but love Elite. 8 for me!!

My crank setup

7'M-MF Shimano Crucial

Shimano Curado 200E5

Trilene 10# flouro(used what was laying around the house)

I give it an 8.5 for the rod, a 9.0 for the reel, and an 8.5 for the line for an average of 8.66.

One of my jig / t-rig setups:

  • 7 ft G.Loomis MBR844C GLX Heavy with Fast Tip
  • Shimano Curado 200E7
  • Sufix Performance Braid 30 lb with Seaguar InvizX 15 lb leader

Reel- 9/10

Rod- have'nt used it, or felt it so I don't really know, so I'll guess 9/10

Line- Been meaning to try sufix, it feels good, just waiting for my Power Pro to run out.

Rod:9/10 My BPS cranking stick is one of only a few rods that I sold that I wish I had back. Great bang for the buck

Reel: 7/10 Never been a fan of BPS reels, but alot of people say good thing about the current PQ

Line: 8/10 Tried and true line, not cutting edge/top of the line stuff, but not junk either.

This is probably my favorite combo to use:

Rod: St Croix Legend Tournament 7' M power/fast action "Teaser"

Reel: Shimano Curado 51E

Line: 20lb Power pro, will use a 12lb Trilene 100% flouro leader when needed.

Near the top of the bang for the buck category. 8/10

My most fun combo;

St Croix LT ML-XF

purple Alphas

8lb test Trilene XL

usually has a 1/32oz Gammy Wacky jighead with a 3X french fry tied on. Also use this for drop-shotting open water structure. A 2 pond bass will give you a great fight on this little combo.

I have this rod - awesome tool! 9/10 - no way I'm putting that sissy sewing thread on my reels, LOL. :P

Peanut sized cranks:

St. Croix AVC70MM

Daiwa Alphas (Carbontex upgrade)

10# CXX
