AJ, didnt read it, but sounds like you've been going to class! Either that or you can copy and paste out of a blog really well! Now go back to chasing women at college and forget about this getting smart thing!

Sam is taking Sean to the double-secret pond Friday.

Well Clary, The economic system we live under here in the United States drives prices of goods/services that are limited/desired up, and goods/services that are plentiful/undesired down. To illustrate this fundamental economic principle, let's say one consumer spends 3x more money than another on any given good/service. The consumer who spent the greater amount of capital is purchasing a good/service that is either A. more desirable and or B. more limited. So, by applying this economic principle to Redlinerobert's pricey combo you can see why I was shocked by the low rating it received. The pricetag on the combo Redlinerobert posted was dictated by either one or both of the forces mentioned above. Basically, Robert's combo is either A. unique or B. Quality. So, yes Clary I'll be the first one to admit I was a little surprised to see a piece of merchandise that posses traits of either being rare or quality faced with opposition. It's kinda like seeing a shooting star, it's unusual and tends to shock the viewer at first. On a side note post a description of a Walmart combo with cheap monofilament ,and see how that combo gets rated............Money isn't relevant!?!? It all goes back to the simple concept you get what you pay for. Oh wait this only holds true to people who don't try and purposely purchase miss marked items......

If cost mattered in this game it would be called "Give me a 1-10 on how much my combo costs"

But it's not. The man gave it a seven because he wasn't a fan of the Steez line. And everything is rated in it's respective price range. i.e, a St.Croix Premier wont get a 3 and a JDM Zillion HLC doesn't get a 14.

Well, technically volume of sales at a given price would be more indicative of how people perceive the value of the item, not at what price the manufacturer/retailer set the price.

And, as with anything, there's a certain status symbol type element that goes along with high dollar purchases that is not always related to performance. Or more appropriately, the assumption that in a free market people always make logical choices is false.

Anyway...

My favorite combo for light Tx rigs.

Rod: JB Customs "Snake" rod (spiral wrapped)

Reel: Daiwa Fuego-L

Supertuned, spool bearing upgrades, Carbontex smoooth drag, 4 bearing swept handle upgrade

Line: 15lb Seguar AbrazX Flouro

I love this combo, because casting is effortless, and with around a 25% increase in distance and accuracy, while being off the charts for sensitivity

Man I can´t say which one is my favorite combo, got so much nice stuff that´s hard to choose....... let´s put it looking from another perspective, if I didn´t like something of my combos I wouldn´t have them.

Posted

Never touched a Fenwick stick

I dont have but a few minutes with one in hand as all I fish are Daiwa reels however I can say they are nice reels for the brief time I fished a Skt Revo when a Non-boater that was fishing with me wanted me to see what I thought about his setup. really smooth casting reel that bombed a 3/8th oz Red Eye shad a very long ways with ease on a Duckett cranking stick.

Berkley 100%= very low on my list of FC's...

My Evergreen Black raven (Ive bought 2 and thinking about 2 more my all time FAV stick out of all my Evergreens, Megabass, Daiwas and Customs. my #2 fav stick are my JDM Daiwa Steez Harriers I have three.)

W/a Daiwa TD-Z Type R

And 16# Sunline Shooter FC.

This is by far the SWEETEST T-Rig setup Ive ever fished. (My other Black Raven has a Pixzilla built on a Airy Red.)

I have never tried the Japanese rods because I hate buying a rod without holding it first.

AND

I don't care much for Daiwa, but one of my cranking reels is the SOL.

That being said, I would still rate your combo a solid 10 for the Japanese/Daiwa users.

My current favorite combo is

G. Loomis NRX 893C JWR 7'5" Med Hvy.

I have two of them (Taylor-Marie and Abigale)and they are my sweethearts.

Each one is paired with a Lew's Speed Spool Tournament Pro, but the Lews is not my favorite reel. My all around favorite is my Cslcutta TE 100 DC.

Posted

8 out of 10.

Would give either nugget to get my hands on that exact NRX; not a fan of the Lew's, and that rod deserves something a little bit...more refined.

My combo is:

7'3" Heavy Powell

Citica 200D

50 lb Power Pro

Love Powell Rods, this one is Mr. Versatility for me.

The reel, well, my son gave it to me, so it's special.

Really? Try using one again. I just finished my tournament season (13 outings) in 3rd place with over 150 pounds of bass caught on that reel. Never had one malfunction with it.

I do plan on getting the new ABU for it though.

Sounds like a winner to me. I like both rod and reel. I have 2 Carbonlites and 1 Curado E5.

I give it an 7, though mostly for the reel. The Big Bait Special is one that I drool over when it passes my bench. I will own one....

It's a TD-Z not a Zillion, great reel.

Rod too short and too light.

Line too light.

St. Croix LTBC79HF "Swimbait"

Shimano Calcutta 200B, Curado 200E handle and knob, Abec 7 Hybrid Spool Bearings, Carbontsx Smooth Drags

Don't own the rod, but I hear it's got a pretty short handle for a SB rod?

That reel sure sounds awesome, but I like to use a 300 size reel for swimbaits (but what do I know).

CXX? I'll pass. Not a fan of that line.

Mattlures 7'7"/ 7'11" MH SB rod

Revo Toro Winch 51, 4.6:1

80 lb Daiwa Samurai with or without leader.

Bottom bouncing soft swimbait set-up.

You are somewhat correct. Mine is actually a custom build, and has a full burl rear grip measuring in at 11". Yes, I can spool the reel with bigger, aero baits. Don't throw those much, mostly 2-3 oz. stuff.

I see. That combo looks bad****.

When I started this swimbaiting endeavor a year ago, you were one of the guys who convinced me to get a 300 size reel, even for sub-3 oz baits. That was pretty good advice as I now realize. Works for me anyway.

BTW, 9/10 for that combo. Took off one point for the line :P

Carry on folks.

lol, don't have any of that nasty stuff in the few lakes I fish. Mostly mud, weeds, and some rocks (a copoly leader works pretty well then).

Rod: 8.5/10 Great Value

Reel: 8.5/10 Great Value

Line: 7/10 Not a fan of Sufix

Mine:

Shimano Chormica

Carrot Stix Gold

Seaguar InvisX

Sorry Packard, I did not rate your combo.

Reel 9, love me Shimano reels, but not familiar with this one.

Rod 8, I like the Stix, but shy away from them

Line 8, I know a lot of people like that line, but it didnt impress me when I used it.

Hope you catch a lot of fish on this set up!
