Duck is great! I just got done eating three breasts, which is a hearty serving for me, but I'm sure a lot of people would eat more at one sitting. A lot of duck hunters have a big feed and cook a few dozen to a few hundred at one time. Also, every big hunter I know has a few people they keep in meat. I duck and deer hunt a little bit, but really love to squirrel hunt. Ironically, squirrel is the only game I don't have a taste for. I've killed 48 so far this season, and easily gave them away to families who were very appreciative.

I'll have to try some. U should see the squirrels around my stand I gotta go take care of them after deer season I usually eat a few and use em for coyote bait.

Duck is no where close to greasy...its a very dry meat. It is delicious fried, in a gumbo, wrapped in cream cheese, jalepeno, and bacon, baked, in gravy, ect. I dont buy any meat. All we eat is duck, deer, and fish.

thats how my uncle is and how i used to be nothing but deer and pheasent. now im married and the wife isnt into that im slowly converting her she will eat venison roast and backstraps if i cut it good and its not 'gamy'. id love to only eat wild game its so healthy and my boy loves it hes been eating the venison jerky quicker then i can make it yelling buck meat and nabing it off the racks when i open the dehydrator. im gonna have to have one of my duck nut students get me some ducks ill do a trade jerky for ducke maybe i can make duck jerky.

I've never tried duck jerky, but I do mix 50/50 duck with bacon and make a sausage. I put in some cheese, green onions, and jalepenos. Its great to grill in the duck blind!

The 1st split is over now. It wont open back up until Dec. 10th so Im done for 2 weeks. I ended up killing 134 ducks in 6 hunts.

That's awesome Fanatic! My hunting buddy and I were thrilled to get 6 between the two of us this morning. I can't imagine 6 hunts and 134 ducks. Wow, just wow.

By the way, how many dogs do you use?

I dont have any dogs. I either push the boat out to chase cripples or just hop out of the blind and pick up the dead ducks. I always bring my gun with me out of the blind and usually end up killing a couple while Im in the decoys.

Still killin em here. The first split only lasted a week and I managed 134 in 6 hunts. The second split opened this past saturday and I've killed 71 as of today. We had our 18 on the water by 7:00 a.m. this morning. That puts us at 205 so far for the year. Should reach 250 this weekend. That'll be in 2 weeks of hunting.

Lucky lucky lucky. I wish we could get some ducks here in the TN. Besides last weekend it has been slow here. We managed 35 over two days. Mostly greenheads a few pintails and gadwalls a widgeon and four hollywoods.

Are you mainly shooting teal?

I have a log of every duck we kill but I dont have it on me here at work. If I had to guess, the numbers would go something like this

1. Gadwall 70

2. Teal 45

3. Canvasback 30

4. Wedgion 25

5. Wood Ducks 20

6. Ring-neck 20

7. Red Head 15

7. Mottle duck 2

Killed another 14 this morning.

EDIT: Also killed about 8 pintails

Well at least I know I have you beat on the greenheads lol. The gadwalls haven't shown up here like they usually do. I keep telling myself I'm going fishing instead of chasing ducks all over KY lake but it doesn't happen. We had a little front come through yesterday and today so maybe we have a few new ducks tomorrow.

The only reason we killed some last weekend was a draw hunt on a WMA in west TN. They had some birds over there but there hasn't been much action on KY lake or the other WMA's I hunt.

Yea if you got 1 mallard your doing better than me! I had one fly threw my decoys Saturday morning, but passed to wait on a big group of gadwalls working. Thats the only one Ive even had close enough to shoot.

I went to a private lake we own and we jumped up a few hundred gadwall that were roosting in there. Set up and an hour later had our 24 ducks on the water. Killed 23 gadwall and a GW teal. It was one of the best hunts of the year. We never went more than a minute without having a group of 20-25 falling in the decoys. Im going back there again Friday, but my dad's hunting it Wednesday, so he'll probably shoot em all out of there then so Friday I may be scratching for a limit.

Catahoula Lake has slowed down tho. Besides your limit of canvasback, nothing else is a garuntee anymore. The water came up and they have been getting pounded out there for over 2 weeks now, so most ducks have left the lake. I am at 249 so far in 2 weeks of hunting. Im thinking Im going to reach my goal of 500 this year!

This is the way to end the year!

We could have limited out really quickly, but kept waiting for some Pintail to come in.

Ended up with 5 Ring Necks, 1 Shoveler, 2 Widgeon, and 8 Blue wing teal

Nice bag...looks like a great day. We are at 347 so far and half way through the season.

Glad you boys down south are having some good shoots. Our duck season ended earlier this week but we can shoot Canadas until the end of Jan. Pretty crazy season. Ended with 287 ducks and 93 canadas. Sounds like a lot on paper and we really only hunted the weekends besides 2 Fridays off around Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. Great hatch this year with lots of birds seen. We're hunting a pretty metro area and the ducks find the safe ponds and pits fast, but luckily, those geese are suckers for 13 dozen goose decoys on a sand bar. Most of the ducks we got were teal and gads, with mallards shot in early November and more in late December. Keep gettin 'em boys.

Now thats what Im talking about!! Ive never killed a goose in my life, its on my bucket list. The ducks around here are getting alot smarter and with all the rain we've gotten the past few weeks they have spread out alot. Catahoula Lake is about 6 foot high and all the standing blinds are underwater. I had to pull my floater out last week to keep it from pulling up the posts. They are still killing a few out there, but it's nothing like it was earlier in the season. Now on our private lakes we are still pounding em'. Killed our 18 in 23 minutes Monday morning. 14 gadwall, 3 woodies, and 1 widgeon.
