After a few weeks trying to Chris to put down the jigs and get out of the workshop, he agreed to take me to one of his local favorite lakes. Chris is designing a new line of jigs so we did some testing, and they were killer!

The presentation that worked the best was the PB and J color in 3/8 oz. Unlike the theory that slower is better in the fall, the bass hammering the jigs on a faster fall, as well as fast hopping on the bottom. We were tossing the jigs near pads and around docks, but found that most of our fish were in open flats, with not much cover.

The first two pictured below I caught on the PB and J, but near the end of the day clouds rolled in and become overcast. I told Chris that I was switching to black/blue, and he turned and said "I'll stick with what I am throwing". I flipped the jig near a pad and THUNK! I set the hook on what we both thought was a heavy pike, but as it boiled it was clear that it was no pike. The bass wrapped itself around a few pads and I new there was a chance a would land this fish, but my 12 lb CXX came through and I horsed her to the boat. We didn't have a scale on us, but she measured at 20" and we are thinking between 5.5 - 6 lbs.

Overall, the jig preformed beyond our expectations! Look out for his new jigs in the near future.

Vinny, that is a superb fish, especially up north! Jigs are one of my favorite baits to throw as the water cools down. I'd say that fish is 5 easy. Really, really nice fish.

What rod is that?

Thanks fat-g,

Yeah it's really hard to tell because she was fat as could be, but yeah 5-6 lb is accurate haha. The rod is actually a 7' H cabelas prodigy rod that I have had for awhile now and have found no reason to replace it. It has the power to stick the pigs and the sensitivity is comparable to some of the better rods out there.

Nice man. Really fat, healthy, beautiful fish.

I'm impressed that you're using a 7' H rod and 12# CXX for jigs. I basically use a flippin stick and 50-65# braid. I wouldn't feel confident in getting a good hookset with 12# copoly. That said, if I was going to use copoly, it would definitely be CXX. :D

That line is SO strong. The 12# breaks at something like 22.4 pounds - that is very impressive.

I like H rods for jig fishing becuase I have lost more fish using under powered rods than I have ripping jigs out of their mouths with a heavier power. And again the sensitivity on that rod is nice. I have a few other jig rods, but the faster fall with the 12# was getting more strikes than my 20# seagur.

Yeah its true, Vinny whipped up on me, I told him any more and he was swimming to the landing :D We were discussing the difference in setups, since we were basically fishing the same size jigs, same size trailers, but Vinny was fishing faster than me, I couldn't fish faster and stay on the bottom. The thinner line diameter helped his jig drop faster, drawing better strikes, and that is why you see his ugly mug in the photo's :D, In retrospect I get pretty hard headed and probably should have put down my flipping stick with 20lb Yozuri, and picked up another lighter rod I use for finesse jigs that has 12lb on it, but I didn't and that was the difference between snapping the pics, and being in the pics :(

Wow, quality fish. I think that is what I've come to expect when I fish Northstar jigs! I feel the need to make an order!!

Very nice! Gets me pumped to break out the jigs again and get away from topwater action.

Nice fish. What trailer is that?
