Red Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 My brother is in town and wants to catch some fish. We only caught one super dink this morning. We worked a rocky bank with topwaters early then cranks and worms later on. Also fished up in one of the creeks and got nothing. Any quick tips are much appreciated. Water temps are in the mid 70's. I am fishing in Central Texas, Lake Waco to be exact. Local guys are reporting good fishing but not too many details. Think I should stick to fishing in the creeks? Main lake points? Thanks!! Big-O Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 If you're not catching the fish in the creeks, they're probably not there! In most of Texas, main lake areas are still good IMO. Flippin 6 to 12 ft bushes on points and scattered brush near drops seems to be a standard on most of the lakes I'm fishing! C rig is also good in similar areas. Ck out the structure around the Dam as well. Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 14, 2011 Global Moderator Posted October 14, 2011 We're still catching most of our fish on mainlakes up here in Kansas and Missouri too. Some fish are starting to work back towards secondary points in larger coves but most of the bigger fish are still in the mainlake with water temps around 70. The main difference is we're starting to get a lot more spinnerbait and crankbait fish now than we were a month ago. The shad are starting to school and head for the shallows also so be on the lookout for them because they bass will be close by. Quote
KickinBass21 Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Down here in Az we are starting to see some of the "Fall Bite" to start up. I have been catching a lot of decent bass using spinnerbaits. Usually Red/Orange/Chartreuse or Black/Chartreuse. Idiana blades. I am also having success with a 1/8oz. Brown Football Head jig with a brown/purple skirt with purple flake. Added to that is a RoboFX chugger in Aaron's Magic or MMII. Try fishing in about 15ft-30ft of water off the points Quote

Cliff Here's something that always work for me. Locate bait fish! If you can locate them, you know you're in for the ride. If you don't see them around, you'll know your chances are slim to get a fish at that point. . Quote
Red Posted October 14, 2011 Author Posted October 14, 2011 Thanks for the help guys. We fished a main lake point in 8-12 feet of water and we caught ten bass. Nothing big but all fun. The crankbait was the ticket. Gonna try another similar spot tonight then pick the better of the two to concentrate the rest of our weekend on. Thanks again, I knew I could count on BR for the right answers!!! Cliff Quote
bandsr4me20 Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Where do yall choose to fish when there are baitfish from the main lake all the way to the very backs of the creeks? Do you just start at the main lake and work your way back till you find which area is holding the most fish? Quote

Look for the areas that you might normally expect to hold fish, rockpiles, standing timber, ledges, ect. If there is baitfish on or close to those areas then there is probably going to be some bass there too. Quote
