Hello,

Heading to Lake O this weekend. I have been told to fish the docks. We are staying near MM 20. Any suggestions on which docks to fish? What should I look for to find the best docks? Should I be flipping/pitching in the docks? Should I also throw crankbaits around the docks for suspended fish?

thanks very much

Right now I would fish docks back in the creeks/coves. It changes day to day where the fish and shad will position. I would fish the 1st, last and any unusual docks. Crankbaits down the sides of docks will work well also try to swim a jig down the sides as well. Flipping and pitching seems to always pick up a few fish as well. Good luck

If you can look at a topo map do that. Find areas that look good on that map and then look at Google Earth or Bing and see if those areas have docks. If an area will already hold fish than a dock is just a bonus. I don't know if the fish are back in the coves yet at Lake of the Ozarks. They were still in the mainlake at Table Rock and Pomme De Terre a couple weekends ago and were still in the mainlake at a smaller lake near KC last week. I would probably hit some points, secondary points, and the backs of some coves and see if one proves to produce better than others. Jigs and shakeyheads pitched around docks along with spinnerbaits, swimjigs, wakebaits, and swimbaits fished down the sides of the docks can be good. One of the best baits I've found for suspended fish on LOZ is a wacky rigged senko. Let it sink a few feet, give it a couple twitches, reel in and repeat. Works well between the boat stalls or around the edges. Don't get completely hung up on fishing docks though. A friend of mine caught an 8 pounder from 40' of water on a 1oz football jig a couple years ago in October around the PB2 area. It was no where near a dock either.

How did you do? Looks like I might be headed down there this weekend. Staying at my friends lakehouse but I have no idea where that is and he doesn't seem to be really sure either  Got a bunch of new jigs I need to toss around and wouldn't mind throwing a Huddleston at some docks to try and get a big bite.

We did pretty good. Caught them mostly in front of the docks in 25-30 ft.
