Glx Bcr852 Worm Fishing ?

Does anyone fish this rod(GLX Bcr852)? I was thinking about buying one for worm fishing mainly 11" ribbon tail worms. I’m looking for something with allot of sensitivity.

The GLX rods are undeniably quality products. However, IMO the point of diminishing returns on a production rod is around $250. Above that, you really should consider a custom build. There are equally impressive blanks available to custom builders and we can maximize the potential of each individual blank by investing the extra time that a production operation just can't afford.

A 2 power for 11" worms seems a little light. I'd handle one in person before committing to that.

Absolutely right. Definitely consider a more powerful rod.

Thanks, I felt it and was thinking the same thing that is why I dint buy it but was thinking about going back and getting it. It felt like it was just a little too light, but I have never set the hook on that model so I don’t know what the backbone feels like. It’s new for $200. So I figured its a good deal either way. I will be throwing the 12" worm allot for the next 2 months but then I will be back to the 7" worm. Seems like it would be great for the 7" with a 3/0 hook, and may just have to really set it hard with the 12" worm and a 5/0 hook.

But my main concern is I don’t want to run into problems on a long cast hook set...any suggestions?

Thats a smoking deal on that rod. Thats almost 50% off. Just buy it and find a use for it later.

It's basically a senko rod. For $200, just buy it, and figure what you want to do with it later.

The 854 would be a better suit for that type of fishing.

The reason I bought my BCR852 GLX was the same, found a smoking deal on it. I own several other BCR GLX's in 3 and 4 power so figured this one would be as great as the others. Nope. Never really liked that rod much. Too whippy for my likes in a 2 power rod and I did not think the sensitivity was as good as most GLX's I've owned. I would certainly not recommend it for big worms, or big anything. At that price, you might be able to flip for a profit, though. That's the only reason I'd buy it, personally.

Thanks for the advice I defiantly don’t want a whippy rod for the big worm, especially if it doesn’t have a solid backbone. I will check out the 854. He also had a bunch of Cumara's, have you guys fished that rod?

That's a great rod for tubes. I have one, and that's what I use it for.

I know it says jig and worm rod, but it ain't that at all. I don't even think it's a good senko rod. I tried it for several applications, and had just about decided to get rid of it when I tried it for tubes. It now goes with me every time out.

Turns out the rod was a Bcr853-GLX MH, so this just might work. I dont think I want to go to a heavy action with the big worm...

Get it...too good of a deal to pass up. I was eyeballing the Loomis JBR813 for a week for $138 at TW and went to order it today and they dont have em anymore . Buy it quick before someone else does.

Jeb, I don't know if I want a BCR853 or a BCR803. I have read what you and others have to say about the BCR 803GLX and I think that it might be the rod that I have been looking for. John

Yeah, if it were between those two at the same price, I'd get the 803. Something magical about that rod, no doubt. But $200 for that BCR853 GLX is one hell of a deal and I'm sure it would be very close to the 803 in performance.

The 853 GLX is a fantastic rod - one of my favourites, actually. I use mine for lighter T-rigs (Usually 1/8 - 3/16 oz. tungsten + bait).

For that price, I wouldn’t think twice.

A BCR852 Mossyback is a BCR852 Mossyback a BCR852 GLX is a BCR852 GLX... If its what he said then I would buy them all to flip lol.... that would be a HELL of a deal on new sticks.
