bigbassctchr101 Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I've had the bottom drop out of you, stomach hit the ground, gutfeeling many times... Here's some things that'll get ya. Trying to get your boat motor to start for close to an hour before...... you figure out the kill switch is attached to your jacket. Pulling up off the ramp to see your boat floating away with noone in it because you unhooked the winch. Tossing your buddies keys to him from boat to boat just to hear a ....ka plunk. Not being able to figure out why your entire butt end of the boat is submerged under water and not coming off the trailer....until you hear, did you unhook the boat???? A cold early winter morning when your pumped up about that first really good jerkbait bite, until you step down in the floor and get ready to take off and hear a splash. Thats when you realize you forgot to screw in the plug. Hot summer night when that buzzbait bite is rockin', you decide to take off across the cove to hit another shaded night bank. You hit the hot foot and get a big spray of water all over you!!! The trolling motor is in the water. I may not have done all of these....most of them I do admit lol. But I have witnessed all and many more! How about you guys? Quote
gar-tracker Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 You used up all the good ones. How about missing an eye on a rod and finding out tournament morning. Oh.. I left the motor toater strapped to the engine once, couldnt get out of the hole and then hard a big snap, stopped tio find half of the toater hooked to the lower unit. Quote

Doug Sutherland Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I wouldnt recommend leaving your trailer lights unplugged from the lake to home....just sayin Quote
Sfritr Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 How about getting across the lake and realizing that you forgot to put the tackle bag in the boat? Or Getting a few miles from the ramp in the morning and realizing Taco Bell's late night muchies were NOT a good idea.........??????? 1 Quote
NCLifetimer Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Sometimes ill forget to change the settings when switching lures or techniques (pitching to regular casting). This results in a backlash, which will sometimes break my line in mid cast (especially if i'm using a leader and switched to a heavier lure) then I get to watch my $5 lure fly through the air a surprising distance. tkite16 Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 My brilliant one is tieing on a new lure and cutting the end attached to the lure instead of the tag end. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I put a TM battery in my boat earlier this year and hooked up my charging system (it runs off the motor) backwards. It back fed into the motor and fried my voltage regulators, ECU, and wiring harness. Now im having to replace a coil and I think its probably from the same problem. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 19, 2011 Global Moderator Posted October 19, 2011 As much as that gut feeling sucks when you realize you forgot the plug, it sucks so much when you frantically try to get the motor to start and it won't and the bilge can't keep up. Lucky for me it was on a small lake and I made it back to the side of the ramp so when the water started coming over the back and my boat sank completely it didn't sink far and settled in nice soft mud Getting an 18' Ranger off the bottom and onto a trailer and out of the water is not fun and neither is explaining to the boat mechanic why you had 6 gallons of water in your gas tank. And don't let that boat salesman BS you, you can sink a Ranger. Quote
Sfritr Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Yep that would be about the time I soiled myself......... Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted October 22, 2011 Super User Posted October 22, 2011 Yes, the water was cold. Yes, it was WAY over my head. Yes, it was a long way from shore. Yes, I felt like an idot. Yes, my son peed his pants from laughing. Quote

guitarkid Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 what about having your batteries going dead with the motor trimmed all the way up. -gk Quote
"BRB" Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Seen a guy back his trailer in the water to load his boat and when he got out of the truck, the parking brake didn't work. All you could see was the top of the cab. I'm thinking he had that filling. Quote
"BRB" Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 And for myself I went to set the hook one day. And guess I didn't have a good hold. Any ways I had to get a new rod. I jump in but couldn't find it. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted October 24, 2011 Super User Posted October 24, 2011 Pictures of swimming fishermen reminds me of an adventure I was a witness to. The tournament director decided it was safe to launch in the fog as long as every kept the rpm's under 2,000. The boat next and just ahead of us decided that for safety sake, the backseater should stand on the bow to look for danger. Yup, one "whoa" and his partner threw it into reverse. The guy did the most ungraceful swan dive I've ever seen! He wasn't too happy. But, disasters aren't always bad. Same TD drove two hours from home only to find out he left the boat keys sitting on the kitchen counter. They placed in the money and took big bass all within sight of the launch. Quote
