Curado 50E Help.

Just got a Curado 50E and it seems I have to almost bottom out the cast control knob to get the proper spool tension, even with the lightest weight baits. Casts great but I am wondering if this is normal. I removed the knob and the shim is there and also a spring. Both were re-installed as they were. Spring was installed upside down and it got much worse. Any thoughts?

No problems casting so far but I thing something is wrong. Either spring too long or there should be a thicker shim?

What do you mean "bottom out?" Do you need to tighten the cap all the way down to get any tension? Or the opposite?

I have to tighten the knob until it almost will not turn anymore so all the way down.

One thing I didn't do was try it without the spring to see if the threads are bad but they seem fine. Just have to crank on the knob to achieve proper tension. Most reels have an o-ring to keep the knob in place and not in the lake but this has a spring. I will try to adjust without the spring to check threads but cannot leave spring out or with my luck the knob will end up at the bottom of the lake.

I just checked my 50E and I do have to crank my cast control knob down a good ways to get any tension. I have 2 brakes on and 4 off with about 3/8oz tied on. I never have thought anything was wrong before and I still don't.

Thanks John. Same here with 2 on, 4 off. I'm throwing weightless flukes etc, so It's probably not even 1/8 oz. Must be how it is. As long as it works.

It should have a fair amount of tension adjustment. Make sure the spring has the large end toward the bearing and twist it a little to be sure it is seated. If I remember right there should be a small thin rubber bushing and a thicker carbon one in the cap, check the schematic to be sure or I'll do it later. If the shim is dimpled turn it over. If it's crushed it may need replacing. See how far the cap needs to be tightned just to keep the spool from moving side to side. You should have adjustment available after that.
