Hey everyone, I'm looking for a good baitcasting rod for under $120 that wont break easily. I'll be throwing mostly 5" or 7" senkos (T-rigged & weighted) and sometimes ill break out the spinnerbait. I fish from the shore most of the time so i want to be able to cast far. Right now im looking at the Abu Garcia veritas and St. Croix Mojo Bass. Which should i pick? Feel free to suggest any other rods too!

Btw, the reel im going to use is a Shimano Citica 201e

Whichever one feels best in your hand.

That's a popular comparison... One person will say Mojo, the next will say Veritas. Just don't let looks deceive you with the "white" rod. both good rods.

I know some swear by the Veritas, but I've seen about 5 guys fish in-person with them in my life, and 3 of them broke it doing something where it shouldn't have broken. That limited experience made me go with the Vendetta instead. It seems most on the forums prefer the Veritas to the Mojo if those are the 2 you're looking at.

I have both those rods and a Citica. First of all, I'll say that the Citica is the best of the three... love that reel (performs over its price point in my opinion). I like my Veritas just a little bit better than the Mojo, but I enjoy both of them. I've since upgraded with higher end Loomis, St Croix, and Dobyns rods, but I still feel pretty confident on the days I leave the higher priced gear at home.

To be honest, the one that you think looks better and/or feels better is the one you should get. Don't let us try to talk you into one over the other. By the way, that Citica would look and perform great on a new Compre.

I am a Cork guy but other than that I like my Veritas. Check out the Lamiglas with micros.

Veritas: I own and love

Can't speak for the Mojo but I have good things about but would recommend the Veritas to anyone

I know I'm probably sounding like a broken record :lol: but check out the Cabelas XMLTi casting rods. They are normally $200 but on sale in for $120 which is right in your price range. Its light and very sensitive with quality components and backed by cabelas warrantly. I've never handled the other rods but I would say look at the xmlti.

Find and old crucial GREAT rods for the money. Also look around in the flea market you can get a heck of a stick for around that price! :D

In that price range, I say used Crucial/Avid or new Veritas. A little above your price point, but I bought a Dobyns SS735C for ~$130 when BTD had their 20% off sale, and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made...
