Super User Sam Posted October 8, 2011 Super User Posted October 8, 2011 Sad news from ESPN ticker this AM. It said Al Davis of the Raiders passed away. Like him or not, he helped with the NFL-AFL merger and always would give the old geezers or players with problems a second chance. It will be interesting to see the direction the Raiders take without him. We will miss good ole Al Davis. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 8, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 8, 2011 Wow, that's a shock! He was a major influence on the NFL. He will be missed. That said, it's sad to say, but it's probably the best thing that's happened to the Raiders in a very long time. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted October 8, 2011 Super User Posted October 8, 2011 You're right on, Glenn. He was good for football, but he hasn't been too good for the Raiders the past few+ years. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted October 8, 2011 Super User Posted October 8, 2011 I'm I'm I'm speechless..... RIP Mr Davis Raider Nation 4 Life Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 9, 2011 Super User Posted October 9, 2011 I liked Al Davis' style, I have always been a Raider's fan from afar, I know a lot of people didn't care for him. There have been quite a few nutty owners in professional sports, another former Oakland owner, Charlie Finley for one. You may not care for these renegades but I find hard not to admire them for their innovations and success. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted October 9, 2011 Super User Posted October 9, 2011 I can honestly say that I've been following football since the 70's and never knew that Al Davis was born the next town over from me in Brockton, MA until recently. Quote
