Edgy Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Well i am looking to getting a new rod in the 100-150$ range and less if it is worth it. Well i mainly soft plastic and jig fish with the occasional spinner bait and hardbait fishing. I was looking for a rod that is specialty for plastics and jigs or even a rod that is good for anything. I use spinning reels, and i am most likely getting like a $60 baitcaster with some cheap line and tie on a drop shot sinker and pratice casting in my back yard while fishing with my spinning reel. What rods/reels would you suggest for my fishing style and again please no baitcasting suggestions unless they are a cheap rod to practice with. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 The new Rage line from St Croix is at the top of your budget at $150 but this is a quality blank and light weight with micro guides. Go with the 7'1" Med. Stretch your baitcaster buget another $17 and grab a BPS Pro Qualifier on sale for $79. The quality is light years ahead of anything else you'll find in the <$100 range. 1 Quote
Edgy Posted October 7, 2011 Author Posted October 7, 2011 Yea i was looking at the st croix i always like the long warranties that come with them and yea a BPS baitcaster was what i was thinking about. Still people please put in your ideas i need as much help as i can! Quote
dude loves to fish Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 A good medium heavy rod will work for all 3 of those applications, in the 7' range. I would suggest looking at the Kistler Mirco guide Carbon Steel rod, it's within your price range or maybe even one of the magnesium rods. Super light and very sensitive. As for the reel, I also like the BPS pro qualifier for the price, which I just bought one. Quote
BassHole5 Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Doesn't really matter what rod but I would suggest the Abe Garcia Veritas or maybe if you can look into the Shimano rod series, they look awesome. But whatever you get I would suggest a 6'8-7'2" in a MH-F Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted October 8, 2011 Super User Posted October 8, 2011 a rod you should look at is the Falcon Lowrider LFC-5-17 XG MH/MF. a 7 foot rod that is "made" for deep cranks which tells me its a good all around rod. its a rod that goes on every trip i go on. Quote
Edgy Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Yea i always thought medium was the strongest i needed, from what i am hearing i guess i am wrong. well yea ill look into those rods so what like 7' long MH? and keep the suggestions coming. Quote
