Chris Wilson Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 So i finally got around to getting a new setup. Haven't posted here in forever so now's a good time! I bought a Shimano Chronarch 201E6. Beautiful reel. Got a berkley lightening rod IM6 6' 1 piece MH. Not a bad rod, a lot better than the setup I got before this. And for line i went with red power pro in 30lb. My previous setup was a quantum accurist pt lefty (probably 6 or so years old), a shakespeare 6'6" 1 piece ugly stik MH, and 50lb power pro. The difference in weight, drag smoothness, castability and sensitivity is phenominal. No comparison. My quantum setup is still going strong and isn't getting put away anytime soon, but the shimano setup will probably be coming with me more often than not. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted October 8, 2011 Super User Posted October 8, 2011 Let me be the first to congratulate you. Congratulations. Very nice reel. I think it deserves a better rod. I bought the same rod for my grandson to learn on. Not the same reel, tho. Have a hard time spending that much money on myself. I haven't fished the Berkley rod, so maybe I should before making such a comment. I bought it because it does get suggested quite often as a good low cost rod. Couldn't pass up the half off price! Be sure to post back again after you've had a chance to use the combo for awhile. Might push me towards using the one I have since my grandson hasn't shown much interest in fishing lately. My problem is I don't get out often enough to get a good feeling of how my own rods are going to perform on various techniques. Needing to earn a living kind of sucks sometimes.....well most times. Heck, I bought 2 reels (one new, one used) a couple months ago, and haven't even put line on the new one yet. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted October 8, 2011 Super User Posted October 8, 2011 You're going to love the reel and that rod will be a nice breaking in rod until you can upgrade a bit. Enjoy! Quote
Chris Wilson Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 Thanks guys. Yeah, i plan on upgrading the rod. I just find it easier to spend on a reel first with a decent rod, than buy a really nice rod with a shotty reel. What is a good inexpensive rod to pair with this reel? I do a lot of fishing around trees and stuff, so 6' and under would be good. Quote
