preed37 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 It has been getting down into the 30s in Kentucky and I have not had a chance to go get my rods and reels out of the locker at the boat dock... Do cold temps affect rods/reels/line any? Quote
jeb2 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Not in my experience. If the reel is over oiled/greased, it can be an issue. And rod eyelets will freeze closed with water when fishing in below freezing temps. But should be no issues otherwise. Quote

Do cold temps affect rods/reels/line any? They should be just fine. Even if just parked behind your house. But if your boat is sitting at a boat dock slip and in the water, the water temp should still be in the higher 60's up there isn't it? And your rods are probably in the rod locker which will provide even more heat. So, they're safe. Quote
preed37 Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 Yeah the water is still "warm". It's only at night it dips down that cold, but thank you two for the response. Quote
endless Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I was told buy a rep at BPS that Nano technology has a problem in freezing weather. Now if true not sure but I'm afraid to take out my Carrotstix for this reason. Maybe DVT or someone else can verify. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 5, 2011 Super User Posted October 5, 2011 That would be a HUGE flaw if you can't use some rods in freezing temps. I don't have any issues in weather much colder than just "in the 30s." Quote

I've thrown jerkbaits on my 6'9" carrotstix all day long and the temp never broke 25. If there is a problem, they didn't tell my rod. lol Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 endless, Go ahead and fish. The core construction of e21's rods is still graphite like everyone else. The "Nano bio-fiber" is in the bonding material and may or may not contribute anything meaningful to the rods performance. I can't see any rod manufacturer being around long if their product can't withstand temperatures so likely to be encountered. Quote
Five-Alive Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 my son and I had heard the problem was in fishing in the rain that the line tended to "stick" to the blank and not cast as well however he has several of them and said that they all seem to cast just fine. Quote

Never fished one of those in the winter, but I sure expect them to stand up well to it. Quote
