Kevin Wilder Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I just bought two St. Croix Avid casting rods for $140 each. was this a killer deal and are these rods as good as they say they are? Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted October 3, 2011 Super User Posted October 3, 2011 Yes good deal, and I like the rods alot.....I own 3 6'6'' m/f, 7'0'' mh/f, and 7'0'' h/f Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Sounds like a good deal to me. If you're happy with them, even better! Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted October 4, 2011 Super User Posted October 4, 2011 Awesome rods... you'll be pleased with the deal. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Not a "killer" deal, but a good one for sure. They are quality rods as I have a 7' MH/F model and it is a super versitale stick! Quote
Kevin Wilder Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 yeah I guess killer is a little exaggerate. Just excited is all. I have a 7ft MH F Avid, I find it to be tip heavy, but it is a descently sensitive rod with good build quality. Quote

Mine seemed tip heavy at first too. Its a really finicky rod that has to have the right reel on it to feel good in your hands. I finally put a Curado 50E on it and it now fishes like a dream. Quote

I understand your excitement...Im the same way. When I order a new rod, Im constantly checking the tracking number to see where its at and waiting on the UPS man. Quote
Kevin Wilder Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 how much does your 50e weigh? On 10/4/2011 at 2:19 AM, Bass_Fanatic said: Mine seemed tip heavy at first too. Kevin Wilder Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 nvm i found out... 6.9 ounces right? 7+1 bearings? 10lbs max drag. does it feel pretty balanced or in a perfect world could your reel be lighter or heavier? Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted October 4, 2011 Super User Posted October 4, 2011 I have a 7'MH Avid as well and find a heavier reel feels slightly better, for me any way. I've tried several reels on mine and the Pflueger Supreme felt best for me. It's got a Citica on it now but the supreme has felt the best. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 4, 2011 Super User Posted October 4, 2011 St. Croix builds great rods! These are mine: AVS66MLF, AVC66MF, AVC70MM, ES70MF and EC70MHF Quote
