Got everything ready to buy a boat, put a note on my clubs forums to let me know if they know of any boats for sale, and gave an idea of what I was looking for. Well one of the club guys said to make him an offer, thought he was joking but he was not.

It is a 2000 Ranger 520vx with a 225hp Mercury Optimax, 101lb thrust MinnKota, and Lowrance HDS5 at the console and bow. I have fished out of this boat is several tourneys with the previous owner, runs great.

Now just have to figure out where to get the trailer inspected and get the registration done so the fun can begin.

Nice! You'll like the 225 a lot . My last boat had a 200 and it was a lot of fun.

Are you sure you need the trailer inspected? Here in Massachusetts, they do not inspect trailers.

I never knew that until I got it registered and stopped at an inspection station so they could check the running lights and whatever else to get a sticker for the trailer. They never heard of trailer inspections. Called the registry, and they confirmed what the fellow told me.

Heck, some states, like Tennessee don't even register trailers. But, should you get stopped, you better have proof of insurance. Found that out when the license plate bracket broke off, taking the plate with it, in Pennsylvania of all places. I was on my way to the road trip in Pickwick.

A State Police cruiser followed me for a couple of miles in heavy traffic, but didn't stop me. I wanted to buy a bracket for the plate when I got to Pickwick and a local boat dealer told me they didn't carry them because trailers aren't registered in TN.

Yep I am sure I need it inspected, in Maryland it has to be registered and tagged thru the DMV. Since I bought it used it has to be inspected before they will register it.

Congrats on your new boat. PA requires annual trailer inspection with stickers.

Nice boat, Ranger's 520 series are great fishing platforms!

Just curious if you'd be willing to share what you paid? I'm looking at similar models...and am looking at what range I should be expecting to offer up that's realistic? The NADA values on the Rangers are always WAY lower than what some folks expect for them around these parts of MN.

Yeah, but does it catch fish?

I wish you many happy days on the water.
