Dixon Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Got it in the mail yesterday. Wow this thing is huge. I have never thrown a bait this big. What pound test and how do you work this bait to get the bass attacking it. Quote
FishDontLikeMe1301600221 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 i use 30-40 lb braid for my big swimmers, sometimes with a berkley big game leader.but as for how to use it cast it out slowly wake it back to the boat over cover letting the ticking and wallowing action of the bait do its job,or dead stick this bait or twitch the bait in one place on the surface for explosive strikes. The key here is to let the fish tell you what they want. also you can swim it a few feet underwater on a fast retrieve.what i like about them and most swimmers When you jerk it, it will turn 180 degrees and look right in the fishes face Quote
Branuss04 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Great bait. You won't be disappointed. It's seems big at first, but after awhile your going to wish it was bigger. I would suggest throwing the bait on 20# Mono. I throw mine on 20# Pline CXX. Some of my buddies throw it on 17# but I prefer a little more strength. I find most of my strikes come from a "Jerkbait" like retreive. Stop and go, give it a couple jerks, reel in, stop, etc. Deadsticking works great too. This bait WILL NOT turn 180 degrees like double jointed baits. you can get it to turn 90 degrees or so by twitching it, but to my knowledge only double jointed baits have the ability to turn 180 degrees. Have fun with it, it's an addicting bait!!!! Quote
Super User Dan: Posted July 23, 2009 Super User Posted July 23, 2009 20lb MONO at least. You want stretch with swimbaits. Also you don't want one of those nasty braided line birds nests to snap off your $80 lure... Quote
Dixon Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 What about strong fluorocarbon? Does it need to be mono Quote

DINK WHISPERER Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 What about strong fluorocarbon? Does it need to be mono Fluorocarbon sinks so it is not a good idea for wake baits. Mono or braid would be a much better choice. Quote

From what I understand, that is one of the reasons that MOST swimbait guys don't use braid. Quote

Super User Dan: Posted July 23, 2009 Super User Posted July 23, 2009 yes, but the no stretch characteristic of braid means that if/when you do get a nasty birds nest the line is much more likely to snap than mono, copoly, or fluoro. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 24, 2009 Super User Posted July 24, 2009 Go ahead and throw it on braid if you want to lose it. 20 or 25 lb. PLine CXX Quote

Anybody who actually throws big swimbaits would not recomend 30lb braid for this bait. 20 lb mono. 25 or 30 starts to cut the action IMO. Flouro sinks. No braid lighter than 80lb with that bait unless you like casting them off. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted July 25, 2009 Super User Posted July 25, 2009 FOR A WAKE JR. , I WOULDN'T USE ANYTHING LESS THAN 25# MONO OR CO-POLYMER LINE . I JUST LOST A 8'' HUD THE OTHER DAY USING 20LB. CXX > . SO FROM NOW ON IT'S 25 OR MAYBE EVEN 30 LB. LINE FOR ME . AND no , it didn't break at the knot , it actually broke about 20 yards up the line . thinking about not using p-line anymore , i don't know :-/ Quote
