bassmedic46 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Kevin VanDam's Bass Strategies is good and The Big Book of Bass by Steve Hauge, Advanced BassFishing skills from BASS is also good. Quote
TourPT Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Another good book is Advanced Bass Fishing. I don't remember the author's name or the ISBN number. It has a lot of good advice. An excellent book if your talking about the one written by John Wiess. One of my favorites that I read every winter while waiting for the ice to go away. Quote
piscicidal Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 KVD's "Secrets of a Champion" has probably been the most beneficial toward improving my bass fishing. The attention to detail that he puts toward his spinnerbait/crankbait/etc. techniques really struck home with me. I've since become more detail-oriented, and I think I've become a better bass fisherman as a result. 1 Quote

Been looking for some good reading, Knowing Bass by Keith Jones is going for $120 USED! Man, that must be some book......... I think it's one of the best books I own, although 120 seems absurd unless you're a collector. I have seen used copies go for 20-50 occasionally if you look around for a while. It is the definitive overview of bass physiology, and evidence of perceptual abilities and preferences. Some people think it's overrated because it doesn't get into fishing techniques specifically. And the perspective is primarily experimental, from tank studies, rather than ecological, from observations in natural environments. There's also the issue that the data reported in the book contradict some well-worn myths, which many long-time myth-holders don't particularly like to hear. 20 hours ago, Alan Reed said: Anyone read Chad Hoovers Kayak fishing book? Worth the read? I think so. It covers both kayak basics and bass fishing basics, with his personal tips and recommendations and an emphasis on gear and technique. Chad is pretty good in the book about separating the objective from the subjective, breaking down pros and cons, and then telling you how he prefers to do things and why. The book is already 7 years old, and although it's not out of date, given the explosion and advancement of kayak fishing over the last few years, I wonder if he'll eventually do a revised and expanded edition. Mumbly Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 What a coincidence...I stopped by my local used book store and found a hard copy of Ken Schultz's Bass Madness: Bigmouths, Big Money and Big Dreams at the Bassmaster Classic. Should be a good read. Quote

frogflogger Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Bill Murphy's book is pretty detailed about structure - I still read my old Lucas on Bass Fishing - not so much for technique but a look into the way we approached the sport before technology and tournament fishing brought in so many changes. Knowing Bass is a good read I got it cheap - from Amazon I think. Quote
IntroC Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 I have read many listed here and IMO KVD's Bass Strategies was easily the best for bass fishing info bar none. Quote

When I saw $120 for a book I about crapped myself so I looked up the book brand new, anywhere from $220- $280. Out of sheer principle I think someone aught to smack the writer and the publisher for charging so much for a book. Im sure you can get the same info from another book and if not between two or three books for much less. ? Quote
