What is the reputation banner in the profile? How does it work? How does one get a good or bad reputation?

I think it is to be use more on far as good advice or bad but I think it does get use wrongly at times or use more for popularity reasons.

With the exception of Facebook or some other social media with a " Like" feature I don't recall ever noticing an option to rate people's opinion via a reputation, I think it's pointless. I don't expect to get rave reviews on posts I make, a difference of opinion may be more valuable than having 30,000 members always agreeing, personally I want to know every side of an issue. One of the last things in life for me to be concerned about is my "reputation" on any social network.

Well, actually it was designed to "boost" a post by showing readers which posts the group likes, and doesn't like. It also serves as feedback to the OP. If he continues to get negative or positive feedback, that will give him an indication how the group values his post.

Not to worry. Changes are in the works that will make this feature more intuitive. Stay tuned...

If I may ask what will be the changes and purpose? Is it still going to be a simple click or are we going to have to give input or feedback on why we click the - or + button? Are the Reps still going to used and those with high reps that I are deserving of them, do they get to keep the Reps already given? Or the point system going to start over?

IMO the reputation feature may inhibit some members from actually posting their true feelings about a topic, people love to be part of the "in crowd". I assume everyone likes positive feed back on their posting, myself included, but I would hate to see someone not being honest for a fear of a negative reaction.

I actually think it does have a good purpose. The site has cleaned up a lot. There are still differences of opinions, but now it's not as malicious, for lack of a better term, which is good, because now you can still have a healthy debate. It really cleaned up a lot of the wise @$$ comments that were made in the past. JMHO

I don't have them either and that's where my lack of understanding of it's purpose derrives from.

I think you should always speak what you believe to be the truth, never worry about what others think, and In the end you'll not really care if someone likes or dislikes your post.

Of course everyone should tell the truth, but there are just as many times when everyone should just back off of the keyboard. There's very little use in speaking one's mind when what you have to say will do nothing to change the other person's opinion.

This could hold true for many of the repeated topics that come up here, including the use of live bait, catch and release, or the subject of the greatest lure ever made.... The Senko. Despite the many times that it has been shown that live bait is legal, that eating fish is not a mortal sin, or that the best bait is the one that works at the time, they continue to come up. It becomes a wasted effort to try to inject reason into any conversation with someone who thinks that ALWAYS & NEVER fit into any of life's situations.

The mere act of sitting on one's hands can often lead to getting a better reputation!

Lund, I appreciate your reply and certainly agree to an extent but.....I never post with any Intention of changing ones mind, I simply state my opinion and let others decide If what I wrote was worth responding to , either positively or negatively.

I will wholeheartedly agree with you that certain subjects like the Senko discussions are better left to others. :-)
