Super User slonezp Posted September 28, 2011 Super User Posted September 28, 2011 What is the reputation banner in the profile? How does it work? How does one get a good or bad reputation? 1 Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted September 28, 2011 Super User Posted September 28, 2011 The +/- button on every post that people do is your rep. 1 Quote
endless Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 I think it is to be use more on far as good advice or bad but I think it does get use wrongly at times or use more for popularity reasons. Heck why should it matter anyways? Your is excellent!! Just joking but it is excellent though 1 Quote

GrundleLove Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Like people said, its the +/-. Or in my posts it must come up as only - ..... 3 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 1, 2011 Super User Posted October 1, 2011 With the exception of Facebook or some other social media with a " Like" feature I don't recall ever noticing an option to rate people's opinion via a reputation, I think it's pointless. I don't expect to get rave reviews on posts I make, a difference of opinion may be more valuable than having 30,000 members always agreeing, personally I want to know every side of an issue. One of the last things in life for me to be concerned about is my "reputation" on any social network. 2 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 1, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 1, 2011 Well, actually it was designed to "boost" a post by showing readers which posts the group likes, and doesn't like. It also serves as feedback to the OP. If he continues to get negative or positive feedback, that will give him an indication how the group values his post. Not to worry. Changes are in the works that will make this feature more intuitive. Stay tuned... Quote

Is it still going to be a simple click or are we going to have to give input or feedback on why we click the - or + button? Are the Reps still going to used and those with high reps that I are deserving of them, do they get to keep the Reps already given? Or the point system going to start over? Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 1, 2011 Super User Posted October 1, 2011 IMO the reputation feature may inhibit some members from actually posting their true feelings about a topic, people love to be part of the "in crowd". I assume everyone likes positive feed back on their posting, myself included, but I would hate to see someone not being honest for a fear of a negative reaction. 2 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 1, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 1, 2011 Then you better tell FaceBook to remove the "like" feature. LOL! Endless - be patient. You'll see what it's all about soon enough. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted October 1, 2011 Super User Posted October 1, 2011 I actually think it does have a good purpose. The site has cleaned up a lot. There are still differences of opinions, but now it's not as malicious, for lack of a better term, which is good, because now you can still have a healthy debate. It really cleaned up a lot of the wise @$$ comments that were made in the past. JMHO Quote
quanjig Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Don't have a my face or space book account ( I find them to be utterly pointless ) so I don't really understand the +/- issue or the like button. I speak my mind. I am not looking for a 1st grade smiley face or points in my cool column. Strange to me, almost like you don't want to hurt anyones feelings. I think it was devised by by someone who got a trophy for just participating!! Touchy feely metro fellas!! 2 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 1, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 1, 2011 It was never meant to be any of those things you just mentioned, so thank goodness we're all on the same page! Jigfishn10 - That was actually a result of some "housecleaning" we did earlier this year by removing a few problem children. Quote

Super User slonezp Posted October 2, 2011 Author Super User Posted October 2, 2011 Quanjig, I think you may be my long lost son. I couldn't have put it better! I don't have them either and that's where my lack of understanding of it's purpose derrives from. At least I'm excellent. That's something I can tell my grandkids someday."You know, back in the day, people from the four corners of the earth thought I was excellent." Quote
quanjig Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Thanks for the correct usage of smily's and I hope I got +'s in my cool guy quotient!! Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted October 14, 2011 Super User Posted October 14, 2011 I think you should always speak what you believe to be the truth, never worry about what others think, and In the end you'll not really care if someone likes or dislikes your post. 1 Quote

Super User Lund Explorer Posted October 15, 2011 Super User Posted October 15, 2011 I think you should always speak what you believe to be the truth, never worry about what others think, and In the end you'll not really care if someone likes or dislikes your post. Of course everyone should tell the truth, but there are just as many times when everyone should just back off of the keyboard. There's very little use in speaking one's mind when what you have to say will do nothing to change the other person's opinion. This could hold true for many of the repeated topics that come up here, including the use of live bait, catch and release, or the subject of the greatest lure ever made.... The Senko. Despite the many times that it has been shown that live bait is legal, that eating fish is not a mortal sin, or that the best bait is the one that works at the time, they continue to come up. It becomes a wasted effort to try to inject reason into any conversation with someone who thinks that ALWAYS & NEVER fit into any of life's situations. The mere act of sitting on one's hands can often lead to getting a better reputation! 1 Quote

Lund, I appreciate your reply and certainly agree to an extent but.....I never post with any Intention of changing ones mind, I simply state my opinion and let others decide If what I wrote was worth responding to , either positively or negatively. I will wholeheartedly agree with you that certain subjects like the Senko discussions are better left to others. :-) Quote
