rowyourboat Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 i just started fishing poppers a month or so ago, so far, ive had a lot of luck with the rebel pop r and the rapala skiter pop. so what do you guys like? Quote
BassThumb Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 The larger Xcalibur Zell Pop is the best I've tried so far. Quote
endless Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Rebel 3" in silver black or Hula popper Ghost Dog. I just love the wide mouth and the big bloop from the Hula but Rebel is great also. Quote
Bass XL Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Rebel Magnum Pop R...3" and 1/2 oz of heart-stopping, bass-thrashing action. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 26, 2011 Global Moderator Posted September 26, 2011 Xcalibur Zell Pop by a mile for me. Chug bug and Skitter pop are a distant 2nd and 3rd. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 26, 2011 Super User Posted September 26, 2011 All it takes to get a strike is a ripple, I've had bass hit top lures while they were stationary and I was getting a windknot unraveled. I've had snook hit top waters lures just from the surf pushing it around, I use the identical lures for both salt and freshwater. They all work, I don't have favorites. As of late I have been using nothing but poppers, I either use a 1/2 oz poppa dog or a 1 oz Storm Chug a bug depending on my rod selection, I buy these 2 because they are real easy to find. Quote
sharrison Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 I've had good luck with a cheap H2O express bass colored popper. Seems to work better then any other one I own for some reason. Before I tried the H2O espress one my favorite was a Zell pop Quote
Shane Procell Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 A Rebel PopR works fine for me in the glades. Quote
Steven Ladner Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Rico, there's just something different about them. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted September 27, 2011 Super User Posted September 27, 2011 Megabass Pop-X Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 The knock off Megabass Pop Max Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted September 28, 2011 Super User Posted September 28, 2011 Rico and Rio Rico. Sure can't justify the price! But after catching dozens of fish on them that wound heals pretty quick. Quote
Sfritr Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Definately the Rebel Pop R, then the Rapala Skitter pop. Both generate heart stopping strikes Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Hands down, the Storm Chug Bug is the most versitale popper out there. You can pop it or walk it. Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Yellow magic. I don't throw any others anymore. I don't know what makes the difference, but the fish do. Quote
dhami013 Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 I bought a chrome shad colored popper from Walmart and it has done dirty work. I also like using the Spro Popper frog in Black Widow outside of heavy veg. Quote
Primus Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Yellow Magic & larger Zell Pop when I walk or skitter & stop the bait. The old Excalibur ( discontinued ? ) when I want to fish slow with that Bloop sound. Since my current obseesion is over size lures I picked up couple of large 6-7" poppers to expieriment with next year. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted October 6, 2011 Super User Posted October 6, 2011 Rapala skitterpop, especially #7 in lime frog. Second favorite is the Poppin' image junior. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Forgot to mention the LC Gunfish. Its similiar to the chug bug. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted October 6, 2011 Super User Posted October 6, 2011 megabass pop max This. I've caught fish 17:1 with the Popmax versus a very good friend whom is a very solid angler fishing a Pop-R. It may take a ripple, but fish show a preference time and time again. Anything that ups my chances of taking home a check... well, that's what I'm after. The Yellow Magic is a super bait, too. Quote
