$150 To Spend

I have $150 to spend (could spend $170 if necesary) on a rod for fishing texas rigged plastics, I am overwhelmed with all the options and I don't know what to buy. I am currious to see what others think is the best deal out there.

Yeah, I would go with the Ducket Micro Magic rod too. You won't regret it, it's light and sensitive with micro guide.

A Powell, mh or h in the length you like. The 7' 3" would be my choice.

Or wait for a deal on a Falcon Cara. The Amistad is quite nice.

Are you less confused? Five responses...five different rods suggested (2 different rods from same company).

I ask questions knowing most times I won't be any closer to a decision thanks to all the advice I receive. At least you will know what works for others. Might help weed out some of the possibilities you've been looking at. I do like threads such as this one because I save it in MY Favorites for perusal when I'm looking for another rod.

St croix Avid 7' MH or wait until the new St. Croix Rage rods come out and get a rod with similar specs.

To add to your confusion... the new Shimano Crucials are very likely the highest quality rod around your range for a penny under $160. They have a number of 7'2" rods to choose from (M/F, MH/F, M/XF, MH/XF).

Ok I'll throw the Cabelas XMLTi rod in the hat for $119 as they are on sale and normally run $199. Very very light rods

Can't go wrong with any of the rods mentioned, I'd go with a Powell Max or Endurance. I'm surprised no one's mentioned Dobyns Savvys or Kistlers yet.

It's also surprising to see Clary recommend a Powell; last year round this time, he was all over Falcon Bucoos and BPS carbonlites lol.

Im partial to Kistler performance, but really *** the worth a d**n warranties offered by other manufacturers.

That being said, I have nothing but good things to say about my Helium LTA's, I have two and regularly use two others.

Before posting this thread I was split between a Dobyns Savvy and One of the Powels, I guess I need to look at the Duckets too!

I do not own a duckett, but i have fished one and they do not even compare to thr Dobyns savvy or Powell Max or Endurance. I usedto throw plastics on a 703CEF Powell Max and I loved it. I broke it, sent it off and recieved a brand new Powell Endurance 714CEF rod. It is a sick jig rod, but a little too much for plastics. Right now I am using a St. Croix Avid 7' MH/F rod and I really like it too. I still prefer my old Powell Max 704CEF for plastics though. I also own a Dobyns Savvy 734C rod and it is a super versital stick, but I have yet to use it for plastics. Right now Im throwing jigs/swimbaits/frogs on it.

Either way...all $150 rods are going to be good rods. I personally thought the Duckett was heavier and dead. I would recommed a Powell Max 704CEF or 703CEF according to how heavy of a rod you like. THe Avid is great too, but its a little much at $200.

Also, look at the warranty of each company, that should be a big deciding factor too. Like I said, I broke my Powell Max and recieved a Powell Endurance for free. A free upgrade! Although I did like the Max better.

For that price, I like Savvys. They're extremely balanced, and very sensitive!

I would rather have a BALANCED Savvy than a tip-heavy $250 rod, and I can say that with 100% honesty.

The Savvy is probably the best balanced rod, but the Powell and Avid seem to be a little more sensitive. Like I said, all three are great rods. Im not knockin the Duckett rods either. They are good too, I just felt it was a little heavier than the Powell and Savvy and not quite as sensitive.
