Hanging It Up

When do you guys hang it up for the year in the north east. I won't be able to get out till holloween and I'm usually done by then and in the woods but this year I'm not hunting so I wanna fish later but I don't have a boat and bass fishing I'm afraid is to slow then. Do u guys still fish right up till ice in or no.

As long as the pond down the road from me ain't iced over I go. In fact I was fishing there last year in Nov. and some small game Hunters came strolling by.

I don't shore fish as much as I used to but when the weather's been right I've fished well into November. Also, if you want to fish for other than bass, does Oak Orchard get much of a trout/salmon run?

Like you wouldn't believe but it's a all out war to make a cast or not trample over some one to get down stream

You have a long time still to fish.

I will fish till it freezes over and the lures dont get through the ice.

Several guys put boats in yr round into the Merrimack River at the Bow NH power plant around here.

I am sure you have guys in your area who fish year round if there is open water

The past 2 years I fished until about 1 week before Christmas. Managed to get some smaller ones, but never-the-less they were bass.

Yeah, last week I fished the same topwater and got a nice healthy 3 lber, this one went at 6"...

I tried the Roland Martin technique and put that fish fairly close to the camera to make it look bigger, I guess it didn't work...

Fish the lakes until they ice, then fish the river until it's stopped up with ice breaks, then move to the streams for trout (the limestone streams rarely freeze). Never stop!

Clayton, the Oak pier has some nice smallies and largemouth. I've made trips up your way for salmon, steelhead, browns, etc. and have tied on a spinnerbait, crankbait or plastic worm and caught bass as late as November. I'd bet with the right wind and some warmer temps later in the year you could catch them. Pitch around the weeds and around those rocks...you'll find some nice bass now and then especially on warmer days. If the trout or salmon weren't biting, I'd try for bass and did pretty well, on several occasions. Sometimes you'll see them cruising around too, especially the smallmouth.
