Does any of my fellow Virginia fishermen here know of any good spots to fish off the banks of the James somewhere in the central Virginia area? I want to do some smallie and catfishing and do not have a boat. I know of a couple places in the Albemarle area, but one of them is on the railroad property, so I really do not want to fish there. Just looking for a couple of nice spots where I can set up my catfish poles, and do some small mouth fishing, and not have to travel to far.

Have you checked the boat ramps along the river east of Scottsville? ;)

I know of a boat ramp where the Hardware dumps into the James. Never been there before, but I think I will ride down there and scope it out.

That is in the Hardware River Wildlife Manangement area.

There is another near Howardsville. Also an area called Warren Ferry that is between Howardsville and Hatton Ferry.

Farther downstream is where Rt. 15 crosses the river at Bremo Bluff.
