I don't know much about catfishing. I was fishing the potomac yesterday with a swim jig. When I was bringing in the jig I felt something heavy kinda like when you catch a plastic bag. When I got the jig to the surface I realized I caught something. Big white head....then I lost it. Never set the hook cause I assumed I snagged some garbage. I think it was a catfish. I thought that catfish could were only caught with bait.

I have caught catfish on jigs, senko's, spinnerbaits and crankbaits. It is very likely it was a catfish. When the 17 year locusts came last i was catching catfish and carp on topwater.

Add traps, top water, and frogs to the list.

My buddy and I were fishing SML one night and he caught a catfish on a topwater plug that was as long as my leg and I'm 6'3".

I caught a 40+ lb blue on a spinnerbait a few springs ago. The Potomac catfish seem more inclined to take lures than others I've come across.

I live on the mississippi on lock an dam 19. There's quite a few college and pro fishing tourneys. I've seen pictures of HUGE catfish that are caught around the swingspan bridge in Fort Madison.

The catfish in Kissimmee have a fondness for firetiger crankbaits. I caught 2 over 10lbs last year. Got a trash slam one day on a bomber 6a. Catfish, Pickerel, Mudfish.

Yep. Catfish will hit your bass baits.

All of them if they are hungry or aggravated.

Have had a spinnerbait torn up by a big catfish and lost a number of crankbaits to them as well.

Kidnikarus, I think that big white head could have been Burley.
