kidnikarus1 Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I don't know much about catfishing. I was fishing the potomac yesterday with a swim jig. When I was bringing in the jig I felt something heavy kinda like when you catch a plastic bag. When I got the jig to the surface I realized I caught something. Big white head....then I lost it. Never set the hook cause I assumed I snagged some garbage. I think it was a catfish. I thought that catfish could were only caught with bait. Quote
flippin4it. Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I have caught catfish on jigs, senko's, spinnerbaits and crankbaits. It is very likely it was a catfish. When the 17 year locusts came last i was catching catfish and carp on topwater. Quote
Five-Alive Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 caught about a 10 pound cat fish on a senko and another on a shad rap last year and would have gladly traded either one for a bass half their size!! Quote

dustin11 Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 My buddy and I were fishing SML one night and he caught a catfish on a topwater plug that was as long as my leg and I'm 6'3". Quote
Super User VolFan Posted September 24, 2011 Super User Posted September 24, 2011 I caught a 40+ lb blue on a spinnerbait a few springs ago. The Potomac catfish seem more inclined to take lures than others I've come across. Quote
ruwan Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I live on the mississippi on lock an dam 19. There's quite a few college and pro fishing tourneys. I've seen pictures of HUGE catfish that are caught around the swingspan bridge in Fort Madison. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted December 13, 2011 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted December 13, 2011 The catfish in Kissimmee have a fondness for firetiger crankbaits. I caught 2 over 10lbs last year. Got a trash slam one day on a bomber 6a. Catfish, Pickerel, Mudfish. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 13, 2011 Super User Posted December 13, 2011 Yep. Catfish will hit your bass baits. All of them if they are hungry or aggravated. Have had a spinnerbait torn up by a big catfish and lost a number of crankbaits to them as well. Kidnikarus, I think that big white head could have been Burley. Quote
