I got and old Toro 521 Snowblower that didn't run. I just finished rebuilding the carburetor and changed the oil, but I think I need to replace the auger belt now. Anyone have any experience with an auger belt replacement?

I had a problem with my auger not turning 3 years ago and found it to be a broken tensioner spring. Much cheaper and less work. There must be an inspection plate or cover which can be remover around the top of the area where the engine stand connects to the auger assy. Check it out first.

Better hurry up, big storm coming tonight : )

I'm working most weekends, so yesterday was a good opportunity to fix it. I had this blower last year and put it off a little too late. I decided to fish right up to the holiday season before the first snow of the season which only dropped a couple....of feet! It seems like the storms never let up last year so I jumped on the opportunity to fix it. I don't want to shovel a lot this year...LOL

Makes me happy to live in Alabama. What is a snow blower? And what exactly is snow shoveling? I've never heard of such things.

Didn't the fellow who sold you your shovel read that part of the instruction manual to you?

Trust me, I wish I live in your part of the country come winter time...:D

grandpa1114, the snowthrower was handed down to me from family. I've learned over the years not to accept, because I'm usually the last in line for the hand down and it usually means..."can you throw this away for us"...:D

I'm pretty sure if you go to the Toro website you can download the manual there.

Found it! I can't believe it. The snowthrower I have is a 1995 model and the manual was on the website. I also found the auger belt in the "Toro Store" section. It was half the cost of the local Toro dealer I called earlier this week. It should be here in a couple of days and from what I read, it couldn't be an easier replacement job. Between the carb kit, oil change and now the belt I got all the parts for around $30. The oil and carb took about an hour and I'm guessing another hour to replace the belt. Hopefully it will be time and money well spent if we get nailed with snow again this year.
