Red Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 My wifes horn isn't working, 2005 Pontiac Sunfire. I checked the only two fuses I can find labeled "horn". One is s small 15 amp in the inside fuse box, the other is a big 40 amp fuse in the engine compartment fuse box, both are good. I bought a universal horn and wired it like the instructions showed. There is two wires coming from car, black and green. I wired them to the new horn (polarity does not matter) and mounted the horn to the car. Still no horn. I have read about a horn relay and even found the part online, but I cannot locate it on the vehicle. Nothing in either fuse box is labeled for horn other than the two fuses mentioned above. I double checked the labeling from fuse box cover and manual and both are the same. I would really like to replace the relay before I take it to a dealer to tear into the steering wheel. With the airbag in there it is not something I can do, and from what I read, most service shops won't either. Any ideas where this thing might be? It has to be somewhere, they sell the part. As far as where it is I would have too look in the manual. It kinda sounds like a short in the clock spring or the horn button. U could always move the switch to the dash but that's usually illegal and 2 can be a hassel/unsafe. Quote
OHIO Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 You probably have a short to ground. When you press the horn, you ground the circuit I think. If it's not a short to ground, it might be the relay. When you press the horn, do you hear a click at all? If it clicks, then the relay is still good. If not get a new relay. It's behind the glove box I think. Quote

It's a real pisser to get to. Prob gonna need to remove the plastic trim along the door jamb and another plastic piece that is right in the bottom corner of the right side of the floor board. You should be able to see the harness at this point. Just follow it up behind the glove box--the relay plugs in right off of the harness. It's gonna be closer to the door than the center of the glove box. Been a while since I've done one---may be easier to remove the glove box as well. Quote

boystcroix Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Left side would be drivers side. Not sure of this model but alot of times there are relays behind the dash. Get a flashlight and squeeze in by the pedal and look up. Changing them is as simple as unplugging out of the socket and plugging the new one in. If you find it pull another relay that is similar from elsewhere and plug it in to test it. Quote
