It's always interesting to see those things, for sure. I maintain that the #1 big-fish bait is a jig and trailer. I don't recall the exact stats but the overwhelming majority of the 10+ fish in Texas last year were jig fish.

Not so my friend, a Texas rig by more than 2 to 1 ;)

Catt regarding the Gene Larew ringworm that I've you seen mention dozens of times in various post I've read, I'm curious regarding the details of how you typically rig it in terms of line type, weights, presentation etc ? Also, what does this worm offer that makes it stand out verses other worms that are available ? Thanks

I believe you, but I'll have to track down the year I saw; it was almost like you said, 2 to 1 on a jig compared to "other".

I believe both of you. A jig catches the most big fish for me in fall, winter, and spring. Texas rigs catch my biggest fish in the hot months.

The 10" worm with the blue tip on the tail is lethal in the ponds/small lakes we fish. It became lethal after my buddies saw me hauling in keepers with it.

14-2 - strike king jig w/ zoom brush hog trailer

11-5 - strike king jig w/ yum craw trailer

10-6 - strike king jig w/ 3x chunk trailer

10-5 - strike king jig w/ 3x chunk trailer

13-8 - oldham's trailer hitch jig w/ brush hog trailer

10-6 - 1/2 oz. rattletrap

11-4 - flw jig with 3x chunk trailer

10-15 - rapala x-walk

these are the top 10 fish i've caught on lures. you'll notice that 6 out of 10 came on the jig including both the teens. i don't think that's a coincidence. i don't do the trophy hunting thing much anymore, but even now i still love to fish a jig b/c i have found it to be a great numbers bait as well in the right situations. i guess it just comes down to what you have confidence in. all these fish were caught in TN. hope this helps.
