shimmy Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I was curious as to what lure you guys catch most of your 7+ pound bass on. Please don't include guestimates of bass you think are 7+ but legit 7 pounders and up. Given that some states are harder to get a 7 plus, if you could also mention the state you were in when you caught it. I have a few theories in mind but am curious to hear what the statistics would look like from the many great anglers on this sight. Even if you have only landed one over 7, i would enjoy your input. Thanks, 1. Lure 2. State Quote

Thanks, 1. Lure 2. State I looked at the baits that I had caught the most fish over ten pounds in recent years on a couple years back. The baits I caught the most big bass on were swimbaits and straight tail worms like senkos and trickworms. The lake I fished most didn't have a good crawfish population so I looked at other lakes besides it and added a jig to the list. Now that's all I fish 98% of the time. I don't have any specific numbers but have seen the numberof big fish increase for the amount of time fished since going to those three types of baits most of the time. I catch most of my fish in GA. Shad_Master Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I've never been lucky enough to catch a 7#'er, but I have bumped it a few times. In each case, it was on a soft plastic lure (Lake Fork Ring Fry, Senko and Zoom Ultravibe Speedwork). Most of my fishing is done in Nebraska and Iowa where 7#'ers are rare. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted September 15, 2011 Super User Posted September 15, 2011 For me it is the Zoom Finesse Worm, BUT the rigging is the key to success (note avatar with Trick worm). The states include Va, N.C., Florida, Alabama, and Texas. Every bass 9# plus, including several double digit bass was with that presentation. All since 1980 over 7# were weighed and then CPR (catch, photograph, release). Quote

1234567 Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Over the last year here in Florida I caught 7 bass over the 8 pound mark. Two were on zoom horny toads. One on a 4 inch swimbait. One on a Rapala clackin crank. One on a Manns jelly worm. Two on a Deps Buzzjet. Not big by Florida Standards but still nice fish to me. Quote

Lake Forest Bassin Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 3 so far I caught two of them on a rage tail lobster one with a 1/8 and the other on a 1/4 ounce weight, the other was off a wacky rigged senko. I caught them all from a neighborhood lake in south Florida. Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 One I know was over, one that was close, both on large buzz baits at night. One was a double blade in black, slow chugger, the other a fast white squeeker NGaHB Quote

I caught another that was 25 inches on a 5" senko, but didn't have a scale on me that day. Could have weighed anything from 8 to 13 lbs I've been serious about bass fishing only for the last 2 years though. Small public lakes in Virginia, mostly bank-fishing. Quote

Big Cat Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I have one so far, black jointed Jitterbug at 1130 pm on a small lake in Missouri. Darn near ripped the rod out of my hands, sounded like a shotgun blast under water, pretty cool. However, the most consistant large fish bait for me is a T-Rigged Senko, watermelon or black blue flake. I prefer the Yum Dinger, but just about any cigar shaped weightless worm will probably do.
