waskeyc Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Chris here, from central Virginia. I fish mostly a small stream near my house, but wherever I get a chance. I have a canoe that I sometimes use for fishing, other times I just fish from shore. I enjoy multi-species fishing, but especially smallmouth. Both smallmouth and largemouth are present in my stream, though the largemouth don't get very big. There are also several species of sunfish, black crappie, bullheads, white catfish, and suckers. Lesley Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Welcome. Sounds like you have lots of choices for your fishing. I grew up around farm ponds only. No rivers, no lakes.... farm ponds. We didn't need boats because we could cast all the way across to the other side. Now I live at the beach and am learning 1) how not to surf fish, 2) all of the weird fish names. (Yesterday I caught a fish that looked like a frog. All mouth and head - nearly two thirds of its' length_- YUCK!) Quote
